DESCRIPTION:THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES \nPresented by Tina Flores \n510-832-2372 \n\nThis
film, directed by Walter Salles, traces the youthful origins of a
revolutionary spirit. It follows two daring friends on a life-changing
journey, Enesto “Che” Guevara and Alberto Granado, who hop on the back
of a beat-up motorcycle for a breathtaking road trip across Latin America.
There are no cheap shots and only one “Che” joke --- to explain the
origin of the nickname. This thrilling adventure story is a deeply felt
examination of the events that inspired Che’s political consciousness to
develop, with only a few touches of the hagiography that has developed
around “el Che.” While the plot revolves around Che’s awakening to
the social struggles of South America, there is a rich sense of place, and
people, and beauty in the film. The cinematography is truly gorgeous and
has pulled off a major feat in shooting a period film in a slightly grainy,
sometimes shaky hand-held perspective. This film covers the full human
spectrum: adventurous, exciting, moving, meaningful, beautiful, important.
\n\n\nBefore and after the films, everyone’s invited to indulge in our
Humanist Tea House \n\n$5 donations are accepted \n\n
