DESCRIPTION:World Can't Wait--Drive Out the Bush Regime Emergency Teach-Ins:\n"It's
Worse Than You Think; The World Can Not Wait till 2008"\n\nFOR IMMEDIATE
 RELEASE\nSan Francisco, CA (worldcantwait.net) October 31, 2006 –
Emergency\nTeach-ins will take place on UC Berkeley and San Francisco
State\nUniversity campuses on Wednesday and Thursday of this week,
sponsored\nby UCB and SF State Student Chapters of the World Can't
Wait-Drive Out\nthe Bush Regime and the Bush Crimes
 Commission.\n\nLocations:\nUC Berkeley: Wednesday, November 1, 7 pm\n
Mulford Hall, Rm. 145, UC Berkeley\n\nSan Francisco State: Thursday,
 November 2, 6 pm\n Science Building, Room 210\n\nSpeakers:\nCARLOS
MAURICIO: Internationally known spokesman for the Stop Impunity\nProject, a
torture survivor group. "The situation is this: The USA\ngovernment, the
administration, knows that fear works very well.\nTorture works very well
as a means of repression. The USA government\nright now has played many
cards to bring fears in the United States.\nOn of them is the threat of
terrorism, which can be real or not. The\npoint is, torture is not for
gathering information. Torture is to\nbring fear to the people."\n\nLARRY
EVEREST (UC Berkeley event only): Journalist and author of Oil,\nPower, and
Empire: Iraq and the U.S. Global Agenda. "There is no 'war\non terror.' The
invasion and occupation of Iraq are not part of a 'war\non terror'…What
does exist is a horrific and criminal U.S. war of\nterror against the
people of the world for greater empire."\n\nROBERT HARMON: Representing the
National Lawyers' Guild Military Law\nTask Force, for which he served as a
law intern in matters of military\nand wartime law, including important
research on military commission\ntrials.\n\nDebra Sweet, National
Coordinator of World Can't Wait talking about\nthe purpose of these events
said "The very nature of U.S. society and\nits relationship to other
countries is being reshaped in horrific ways\nbefore our eyes. Yet the full
implications of these sweeping changes\nare not widely understood, even
among those who oppose the Bush\nadministration. The administration
systematically lies about its\nactions and agenda, while the major media
and Democrats allow it to\nframe the overall discussion. As a result, the
most crucial issues are\nnot discussed truthfully either in the public
arena or in election\ncampaigns. This is a major reason why public
resistance to Bush's\noutrages is nowhere near what is urgently needed. The
 teach-ins are\naimed at changing this situation."\n\n\nWORLD CAN'T
