DESCRIPTION:Save Oakland's Condo-Conversion Protections!\n\nProfiteers Want To Kill
Condo Conversion Protections! \n\nWhat:: Planning Commission hears
arguments to kill Condo Conversion Protections: Be There To Say No To The
Weakening Of Oakland’s Rent Laws! \n\nWhen: Wednesday, October 18th at
6pm (Near 12th St. Bart Station) \n \nWhere: Oakland City Council
Chambers, City Hall, 14th & Broadway\n\nCouncilmember’s De la Fuente,
Brooks and Chang want to kill the requirement that each conversion from a
rental unit to a condominium, must be replaced. The three (scrooges) want
to have as many as 1500 units converted a year, creating thousands of
homeless families!\n\nOakland’s Current Condo Conversion Law Protects
Renters!\nOakland’s present day condo-conversion ordinance known as
Section 16.36.070 of the Subdivision Regulations has been in place for over
20 years, went into effect in 1981, and was amended in 1982 and 1984. It
offers a modicum of stability to Oakland’s communities.\n\nSection
16.36.070 requires that any conversion of four or more units throughout the
City, or any number of units within the conversion impact area, must be
alleviated by the development of new rental units to replace the ones being
converted to condominiums. The ordinance states; The subdivider must
demonstrate that one rental unit has been added to the city's housing
supply for every unit converted to a condominium. \n \nThe profiteers want
to end the rental unit replacement requirement! \n\nCity officials in the
pocket of the profiteers are claiming that they are actually promoting
condo-conversions as a form of home ownership for Oaklanders. Meanwhile,
critics of the proposed measure charge that the average Oakland household
income in the flatlands is only around $29,000 to $33,000 per year and that
most renters could not possibly afford to buy a $300,000 condo even if they
wanted to! This has nothing to do with helping out the renters! \n\nJoin
Us To Speakout At Oakland Planning Commision Meeting! \n \nWhat:: Planning
Commission hears arguments to kill Condo Conversion Protections: Be There
To Say No To The Weakening Of Oakland’s Rent Laws! \n\nWhen: Wednesday,
