DESCRIPTION:Socialist School on the Mexican Revolution\n\nA class series examining the 
 rise of the Mexican Revolution in four evening \nsessions begins on 
 November 2 at 7pm. \n\nSession 1, November 2, 7pm Examines the bases of the 
 indigenous movements\nthat have most shaken the capitalist regime in Mexico 
 in the last 12 years—the \nnature of the Spanish conquest, its 
 limitations, the society it created. We will show \nselections from videos 
 and DVDs illustrating the Zapatista uprising of 1994 and the \npresent 
 uprising in Oaxaca. \n\nSession 2, November 9, 7pm Examine the history of 
 the attempt to build a \ncapitalist economy and society in Mexico from 
 independence to the dictatorship of \nPorfirio Diaz.\n\nSession 3, November 
 16, 7pm The third class will examine the Mexican \nRevolution of 1910 that 
 overthrew the Diaz dictatorship and the revolutionary \nmovemnets it 
 unleashed led by Pancho Villa and Emilio Zapata. \n\nSession 4, November 
 21, 7pm The fourth class will examine the history of the \nsocialist 
 movement in Mexico.\n\nThe cost is for all four sessions is $10 or $3 per 
 class. \n\nThe fee includes background readings mailed to participants upon 
 enrollment.\n\nBoth printed material and other suggested readings (books 
 and websites) will be \nenclosed.  \n\nTeaching the classes is Gerry Foley, 
 with over 40 years experience in \nrevolutionary politics. Classes can be 
 taught in both English and Spanish. \n\nEach class meets at the Socialist 
 Action Bookstore, 298 Valencia St. \n(corner of 14th St.) in San Francisco.
