DESCRIPTION:CounterPulse and City Lights Foundation will host Trash Mash-Up as a\npart 
 of their Shaping San Francisco's Fall/Winter Talks.  On October 25,\n2006  
 at 8 p.m. the topic of the Nature in the City Series will be Trash\nand 
 Toxics.  The panel will discuss how we make meaningful change with\nrespect 
 to the growing mountains of waste.  Bridget and Jessica\nMcCracken of Trash 
 Mash-Up will discuss their unique workshops and\npublic performances.  Andy 
 Pugni from HANC Recycling and Erica Swinney\nfrom Greenaction for Health 
 and Environmental Justice will discuss the\npolitics of waste.  There will 
 be a viewing of the 20-minute documentary\n"Gone Tomorrow”.\n \nTrash 
 Mash-Up’s mission is to bring vitality to the community.  Using\npublic 
 art projects, we connect our creative traditions to our\ncollective future. 
  We are committed to realizing the potential value in\nour everyday 
 disposable objects by transforming them into innovative\n“Maskostumes”. 
  Through workshops and public pageants, we support\nextended communities 
 and an environmentally conscious culture.\nTrash Mash-up (TMU) is a 
 collaborative community art project.  Using\ndisposable materials, 
 collected before they enter the waste stream,\nparticipants construct 
 “Maskostumes” which are original pageant masks\nand costumes inspired 
 by traditions from around the world.  TMU enriches\nour community by 
 developing creative connections amongst the\nparticipants in addition to 
 raising awareness about cultural traditions\nand environmental  issues.  
 This project reduces waste and inspires\npeople to see each other and our 
 environment in a new way.\n\nCounterPULSE and City Lights Foundation
