DESCRIPTION:Thursday, Oct. 12, 7 - 9 PM \n\nJoin Bay Area Women in Black and the Women
of Color Resource Center \n\nLiving Under Israeli Occupation: An Evening
with Margo Okazawa-Rey, Feminist Anti-Militarist Activist and Scholar
\n\nMargo Okazawa-Rey is currently working and living in Palestine and
brings us her compelling perspective on issues such as: what are the daily
experiences of Palestinian women living under Israeli Occupation? What
have been the impacts of US- and Israeli-led boycott of Hamas leadership of
the PNA and of the recent Israeli bombings of Lebanon? What are the
responsibilities of US-based progressive feminist activists in addressing
the conflict? \n\nThese questions will frame the presentation and the
conversation that will follow. The talk will include showing a short
documentary video about the impacts of the Isolation Wall on women and
photographs of the transformation of Dahiya Al- Bareed, formerly a vibrant
neighborhood in East Jerusalem, into a near ghost town. There will also be
discussion of what it means to live in the Occupied Palestinian Territory
as a US woman of color. \n\nFor nearly the past two years, Margo has been
the Feminist Research Consultant at the Women’s Centre for Legal Aid and
Counseling, with offices in East Jerusalem and Ramallah, where she is
assisting in establishing a community-based feminist research unit and
teaching feminist research methods to local women. Margo Okazawa-Rey’s
work in Palestine is an extension of her longstanding commitment to
anti-militarist activism and to activist scholarship. She also is
Professor at Fielding Graduate University and Professor Emerita of Social
Work at San Francisco State University. \n\nLocation: Kehilla Synagogue,
1300 Grand Avenue, Piedmont, CA 94610 (right near the Oakland/Piedmont

donation to cover the costs \nSpace is wheelchair accessible. \nFor more
