DESCRIPTION:About the Film\nThis tough, powerful first dramatic feature from Fanta
Régina Nacro (who, with her documentaries, was the first woman filmmaker
in Burkina Faso) is a stunning parable about genocidal civil war in Africa.
In a fictitious country, preparations are underway for a peace ceremony
between the governing Nayak and rebel Bonande tribes. Le President (Adama
Ouedraougo) and Bonande Colonel Theo (Commandant Moussa Cissé) are keen to
put their mutual history of atrocities in the past, but there are forces,
including the President’s resentful wife (Naky Sy Savane) who have other
ideas. Nacro’s tale does not shy away from the devastation that African
tribal wars have caused, and this strong and eloquent narrative
successfully achieves a level of Shakespearean tragedy. This film will stay
in your memory, but please note that there are disturbing images.\n\nIn
Dioula and French with English subtitles.\nWriters: Marc Gautron, Fanta
Régina Nacro. Director: Fanta Régina Nacro. (Burkina Faso 2004) 100 min.
