DESCRIPTION:Bay Area Coalition for Our Reproductive Rights invites\nyou to...\n\nDefend
Women's Rights and Expand Reproductive Justice!\nSaturday, September 23 at
 2:00pm\nWomen's Building, 3543 18th Street (between Valencia\nand
Guerrero), San Francisco\nSnacks and drinks available for a small
donation\n\nBring your ideas to this planning meeting and get\ninvolved
with BACORR in a variety of ways to build the\nmovement and defend
reproductive rights and freedoms. \nHear from leading Bay Area activists,
including Linci\nComy, Executive Director of the Women's Choice
Clinic,\nabout the current climate and what's at stake in the\nbattle for
reproductive justice. Your skills are\nneeded in these urgent times!
 \n\nProposed upcoming activities include:\n\n*organizing against
Proposition 85, the Parental\nNotification Initiative on the ballot in
November\nwhich requires young women to notify their parents or\ngo to
court if they need an abortion\n\n*building a vibrant, multi-issue presence
on the\nanniversary of Roe v. Wade in January 2007 to counter\nthe
thousands of anti-choice fundamentalists who will\ndescend on San Francisco
for the third annual "Walk\nfor Life--West Coast"\n\n*organizing clinic
defense to keep abortion safe and\nlegal -- Bay Area clinic staff and
clients continue to\nface harassment and threats on a regular
basis\n\n*coordinating a public educational on the history of\nwomen's
rights, movement building, and what strategies\nare needed in 2006 and
beyond\n\n*street theatre actions, media campaigns, community\noutreach,
and more. \n\nEveryone is welcome! \n\nA few reasons why this meeting is
so important:\n\nReproductive rights are under attack throughout
the\ncountry like we haven't seen in many years. In July,\nthe last
abortion clinic in the entire state of\nMississippi was targeted by the
 far-right, homophobic,\nanti-women and anti-immigrant groups "Operation
Save\nAmerica" and the Minutemen United. They didn't\nsucceed in shutting
down the Jackson clinic because of\nprotests organized by Southern
feminists and allies\nfrom across the country. Still, nearly 90%
of\ncounties in the US have no access to abortion\nproviders. Access to
any contraception at all is\nunder further attack -- in many states,
pharmacists\nare refusing to fill contraception perscriptions,\nemergency
or otherwise, if it goes against their\nfaith. Additionally, many women of
color and poor\nwomen continue to be threatened by coerced\nsterilization
and lack of access to services. Women\nas a whole still make $0.75 for
every $1.00 a man\nearns, with women of color and immigrant women
making\neven less, and decent, affordable healthcare and\nchildcare is for
too many women an unattainable dream.\n Let's work together to stop the
ultra-right and go on\nthe offensive to preserve hard-won reproductive
rights\nand expand human rights and true equality for all!\n\nThe meeting
is sponsored by Bay Area Coalition for Our\nReproductive Rights (BACORR).
BACORR puts defense of\nbasic reproductive rights around abortion in a
broader\nhistorical context of demands for reproductive\nfreedom, which
includes free abortion on demand, no\nparental consent laws, no
Medicaid/MediCal cuts for\nabortion, no coerced sterilization, free
birth\ncontrol, free quality healthcare, explicit\nnon-moralistic sex
education, and the right to have\nchildren, including access to free
quality child care\nand free quality pre-natal care. \n\nTo build the
strongest and broadest pro-choice\nmovement possible, we must fight all
forms of\noppression. We see reproductive choice as an integral\npart of a
larger struggle for the\nliberation/self-determination of all people. To
this\nend, BACORR recognizes the leadership of and organizes\nto address
the needs of those hardest hit by the\nescalating rightwing climate and
dismantling of social\nservices, including women of color; poor,
 immigrant\nand disabled women; lesbian/bisexual/transgender\npeople, and
young women. \n\nTo endorse this meeting, to RSVP, or for
more\ninformation, please contact BACORR at\nbacorrinfo@riseup.net or
