Contact Emmanuel at guerrillawordfare@gmail.com or Locus Arts at
us@locusarts.org\n********************\n\nAs the 5-year annniversary of the
incidents of Sep. 11, 2001 quickly approaches, we find ourselves looking
back on the last 5 years, examining what has and has not changed in the
world, in this country, in our communities, in our lives. Wars. Patriot
Acts, Civil Liberties. Racisms, Immigration debates, Xenophobia, Domestic
Crisis, Resistance, Affirmation, Growth, Loss, Change. \nWhile these
dynamics still play themselves out locally and globally, the powerful
manipulate the events of Sep 11th (and its wake) for their own political
agendas. As people of color in the U.S., We felt it would be important to
gather and share some of our OWN stories, our own experiences,
perspectives, visions on the last 5 years, to reclaim and rename the loss,
the emotions, the changes, reshape the political landscape. Give voice to
the better world we know is possible.\nIf this resonates with you in any
way, we hope you will join us for the following event (see below) on the
evening of Sat Sep 9. Bring a friend. Family. a listening ear, an open
mind. And please, help spread the word.\nWe're really excited about the
artists coming together to share with us that night; they are amongst the
bay area's most talented, visionary, outspoken, magical. Their hearts and
bloodlines come from New York City, Cuba, Korea, Egypt, Lebanon, Aztlan,
Pakistan. They are part of an 'emergent sea' of voices in opposition, a
rising tide of resistance, and we hope you will be present to hear them as
part of the first of what will be many Guerrilla Wordfare* events in the
bay area.\n\n*******************\n\n*Guerrilla Wordfare is a grassroots
project bringing together artists of color to address socio-political
issues and raise funds for progressive/radical organizing in communities of
color through art as a tool of social change. Founded in Minneapolis, MN in
2001, GW has organized numerous events events in the Twin Cities area, on
issues such as police brutality, the Zapatistas, Immigration, Labor,
Women's struggles, Cuba, and more. In 2006, Guerrilla Wordfare moves to the
bay area Cali, to work in the local communities.\n
