DESCRIPTION:The documentary Encounter Point will play at the Grand Lake Theater, 3200
Grand Avenue in Oakland, on September 25th and 26th at 4:30 and 7:30.
Winner of the 2006 San Francisco International Film Festival Audience
Award, the film follows the lives of a few Israelis and Palestinians who
have suffered great hardship in the conflict between the two groups. In the
face of violence and immense loss, these individuals step forward to end
the circle of hate and promote reconciliation. After screening in Haifa,
Gaza and Jerusalem, the film is coming back to audiences across the United
States.\n\nFilmmakers Ronit Avni and Julia Bacha (writer of Control Room,
winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Full Frame Film Festival and the Official
Selection at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals in 2004) have captured
the true story of brave individuals who are overcoming anger and grief to
work on a grassroots solution. The filmmakers are committed to spreading
the word about the heroic efforts of these ordinary people and to
illustrating peaceful efforts and accomplishments not shown in the media.
Through the journeys of several subjects in the film, Encounter Point shows
that change is possible and Avni and Bacha believe that their film can be
both a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change.\n\nOne of the filmmakers
will be at the September 26th, 7:30 screening for a question-and-answer
 session.\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2006/08/25/18300604.php
