 away\n\nSome of the greatest slam/spoken word artists in the\nnation, the 
 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors (renowned\nAsian American comedy troupe), and 
 Yuri Kochiyama\n(leading Asian American activist) will 
 be\nperforming/speaking at a benefit for Asian American\nprisoners & 
 inmates.\n\nThe Asian Prisoner Support Committee was formed to\nprovide 
 services/support/assistance to Asian inmates\nand to raise awareness among 
 Asian America about\nmembers of our communities. The two cases\nwe're 
 working on right now involve a group of inmates\nat San Quentin State 
 Prison who demanded Ethnic\nStudies courses in the prison education program 
 and\nhave subsequently faced severe retaliation from the\nprison system, 
 and an inmate (Mike Ngo) who is taking\nthe Dept of Corrections to court, 
 challenging its\nexplicit policy of racial segregation as a violation\nof 
 the 14th Ammendment. (see below for more info).\n\nIn addition to these 
 incredible performers, family\nmembers of the inmates will be at the event 
 to share\ninformation about the cases. This is a really amazing\nline-up --

 poetry\nsuperstar. Originally from Minneapolis, he has won\nnumerous poetry 
 slam accolades, including two\nMinnesota Grand Poetry Slam championships, 
 and was a\nfinalist at the National Poetry Slam in 2000. He has\nearned 
 legions of fans from Minnesota to Vietnam, and\nis featured on HBO's Def 
 Poetry Jam.\nhttp://www.baophi.com\n\nIshle Yi Park is an unbelievable 
 Korean American poet\nfrom New York City. She has been featured on 
 two\nseasons of HBO's Def Poetry Jam, and performed at this\nyear's NAACP 
 Image Awards. She's one of Russell\nSimmons' personal favorites, and 
 you'd\nbe a fool to miss her.\nhttp://www.ishle.com\n\nYuri Kochiyama has 
 been a leading Asian American\nactivist for over five decades. Yuri has 
 organized and\nspoken out for racial justice since being interned\nduring 
 WWII, and she has inspired generations of Asian\nAmerican activists along 
 the way.\n\nThe 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors consider themselves\n"the 
 world's most psychotic asian american comedy\ngroup." Born in San 
 Francisco, 18MMW combines\nhilarious comedy and incisive political wit and

 is a diasporic South Asian spoken word\nartist. Originally from Kenya, 
 she's currently based\nin the Bay Area, and stands up for human rights 
 around the world.\n\n>Jason Mateo (aka the Kreative Dwella) is part of 
 the\nSF-based Pilipino American spoken word group 8th\nWonder. One of the 
 best beatboxers in the Bay Area, he\nalso works with Youth Speaks, an 
 organization\ndedicated to developing writing skills among young\nfolks in 
 the Bay
