DESCRIPTION:Afif Safieh is head of the Palestine Liberation Organization delegation to 
 the United States in Washington, DC. Ambassador Safieh served for a dozen 
 years as PLO representative to the Holy See (Vatican) and the United 
 Kingdom before his appointment to Washington in October 2005. The 
 Ambassador will address the stalled peace negotiations, the role of Hamas 
 in the Palestine National Authority, building alliances between Israelis 
 and Palestinians, and joining efforts of progressive\nIsraelis and 
 Palestinians with peace and human rights forces in the USA. We also will be 
 raising funds to help offset the deepening humanitarian public health 
 tragedy in Gaza and the West Bank. Afif Safieh is from a Jerusalem 
 Christian family. He is a remarkably articulate, pragmatic, courageous, 
 persuasive and forward-looking advocate for a political resolution to the 
 Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ambassador Safieh is a great bridge-builder 
 among the many Palestinian, Jewish and other people around the world 
 working for a just and sustainable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian 
 conflict.\n\nSafieh will also speak on Sunday July 30 at 6:30 at the 
 Monterey Institute of International Studies. Safieh’s visit to California 
 is sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee in\nSan Francisco 
 and the Resource Center for Nonviolence in Santa Cruz. Local cosponsors of
