DESCRIPTION:Wednesday, August 2 at 7:30 pm \n\nMETROPOLIS \nPresented by David Oertel
\n510-393-5685 \n\nThis famous German feature film directed by Fritz Lang
is magnificent and riveting today just like it was when it appeared in
1927, in the days of silent movies. It’s about a future society, perhaps
ours, with a steep class differentiation. Humans are divided into thinkers,
who make plans (but don’t know how anything works), and workers, who
achieve goals (but don’t have the vision). Then one man from the
“thinkers” dares visit the underground where the workers toil and is
astonished by what he sees. The plot thickens: workers are controlled by
their leader Maria (Brigitte Helm), who wants to find a mediator between
the upper class lords and the workers since she believes that a heart would
be necessary between brains and muscles. \n \nBefore and after the film,
everyone’s invited to indulge in our Humanist Coffee House \n\n$5
 donations are accepted \n\n
