DESCRIPTION:The South Central Farmers desperately need our help to prevent the 14-acre
urban farm on which they depend from being destroyed. In recent days,
bulldozers have moved onto the property, escorted by the LAPD.\n\nDespite
this threat, dozens of organizations and thousands of concerned people from
around the world are coming together with one voice to call for the
preservation of the farm and justice for the South Central Farmers.\n\nA
series of International Solidarity Days will take place this weekend around
the globe – and many Bay Area organizations are sponsoring a Day of
Action with music, speakers, and food this Saturday at the Grand Lake
Farmers Market in Oakland (see below for full details).\n\nPlease join us
in taking a stand for the South Central Farmers!\n\nToward self-reliance,
renewal, and justice,\n\n- Aaron Lehmer and the Bay Area Relocalize
team\n\n\nCALL TO ACTION!\n\nSouth Central Farm International Day of
Solidarity\nSave the South Central Farm & Support Small Farms
Worldwide!\n\nWHERE: Grand Lake Farmers Market, Oakland (near Lake Merritt
at the corner of Grand and Lake parkway alongside the 580 Freeway)

\n\nCall to Action:\n\nJoin the South Central Farm International Solidarity
Days to defend the rights of small farmers so they may continue to live and
farm with dignity while producing a healthier, safer community for all! We
will be raising awareness for the small farming movement and its critical
place in the green/environmental landscape with special attention paid to
urban farms, family farms, global environmental justice, food security, and
 green development.\n\nThe Struggle Continues!\n\nAlthough 350 family
farmers were evicted from the 14-acre South Central Farm on June 13 the
movement to protect this community grows each day. We are now gearing up
for a July 12 court date that will set the wheels of justice in motion and
challenge the legality of the sale of the farm. We are raising global
awareness for our cause – and for the cause of social justice worldwide.
Join the international social network committed to justice for people and
the planet.\n\nWhat You Can Do:\n\n1. If you do only one act of
solidarity, then call or e-mail L.A. City Council Woman Jan Perry. Ask Ms.
Perry to work with the people of Los Angeles and broker a win-win deal for
the farmers, the land developer and the city. Implore her to help negotiate
the sale the land to the farmers. E-mail her at
Councilperson.Perry@lacity.org or jan.perry@lacity.org and telephone her at
 (213) 473-7009. \n\n2. Print flyers from our website and distribute at
supermarkets, farmers markets, Church or temple\n\n3. Protest in front of
your local City Hall or Supreme Court to let authorities know that feeding
families with fresh, organic, affordable produce is a basic human
right\n\n4. Wear a green ribbon or green t-shirt\n\nDirections to the
