 ba-cispes@prodigy.net\n\n \n\nPress release\n\n \nFor immediate release:
 July 6, 2006 Contact: Bay Area\nCISPES \nOffice:
 (415) 503-0789\n\nSTUDENT PROTEST IN EL SALVADOR MET WITH EXTREME POLICE
VIOLENCE\nLocal community activists rally against the Salvadoran
government¹s\nrepression of protestors, calling for a respect for the
Peace Accords and\nhuman rights \n\n\n Members of the Committee
in Solidarity with the people of El\nSalvador, Salvadorans community
members, and other organizations and\nindividuals will protest outside the
Salvadoran Consulate tomorrow. They\nwill denounce the extreme police
violence used against high school and\nuniversity students who were
protesting bus fair hikes that have worsened\nthe economic crisis for
Salvadoran workers and families. Wednesday morning\nSalvadoran police used
lethal force to shoot into a group of protestors from\nthe ground and from
helicopters, and the police have militarized the area\nsurrounding the
University, including a nearby hospital.\n\n El Salvador¹s
Human Rights Ombudswoman has called yesterday¹s\nviolence the worst
violation of human rights since the signing of the 1992\nPeace Accords,
which put an and to the 12 year civil war. Today¹s police\noccupation into
the national university is strikingly familiar to the 1980¹s\nwhen the
state military-police forces invaded the National University
campus\nvarious times. These events confirm Salvadorans¹ worries about
the\ninstallation of the International Law Enforcement Academy in El
Salvador, a\npolice training school funded by the U.S.
government.\n\n\nWHAT: A rally in front of the Salvadoran Consulate office
in San Francisco.\nWe want to let the Salvadoran government know that we
are aware of the\nsituation in El Salvador and also that we are worried
because of the\nviolence used against the social movement. We ask the
Salvadoran government\nto stop violations to human rights, to respect the
autonomy of the National\nUniversity, and to free the detained young
 people.\n\n\nWHEN: 11:30-1pm, Friday, July 7, 2006.\n\n\nWHERE:
Salvadoran Consulate, Flood Building On Market @ Powell St.\n\n\nVISUALS:
Signs, banners and street theater.\n\n### \n\nBay Area
