DESCRIPTION:The Pastors For Peace/IFCO Cuba “Friendshipment” Caravan will arrive in
Sacramento on Saturday, June 24, at 6:00 PM at the Southside Co-Housing
Common House, 434 T Street. A potluck dinner will be followed by an
presentation by Karen Wald, a great speaker and expert on Cuba. The public
is invited. \n\nIn June/July 2006, the 17th Friendshipment will travel on
13 different routes to visit more than 120 US and Canadian cities. They
will travel in school buses, trucks, and cars to Cuba via Mexico with
medical and educational supplies collected from groups across the US and
Canada, refusing US Treasury Department licenses, as a collective challenge
to the blockade and travel ban. \n\nThe caravanistas will spend 8 days in
Cuba visiting hospitals, schools and a range of social projects in Havana,
hearing from important Cuban speakers, and meeting people via cultural
activities. They will then fly back to Mexico and cross the Texas border on
July 17th, bringing back with them a symbolic donation of goods that Cuba
would like to trade with the US people. Once again, Pastors for Peace is
mounting a joint travel challenge with the Venceremos Brigade and the
US-Cuba Labor Exchange. \n\nKaren Wald is an excellent speaker with
extensive experience as a writer/journalist, researcher,
educator, consultant and administrator. She has thirty-six years experience
writing for newspapers, magazines, professional journals, radio, video,
etc. \n\nShe worked for nearly two decades as a permanent foreign
correspondent in Cuba. Her themes include civil and human rights, war and
peace, environment, women, health, education, international relations,
religion and life in Cuba. \n\nFor more information or if your organization
would like to co-sponsor this event, call the Central America Action
 Committee, (916) 457-5018. \n\n\n
