information, contact: Jean Piraino OR Pamela Sexton at
psexton{a}sasquatch.com\n \nDavid Bacon is a writer and photojournalist
based in San Francisco. His work covers issues of labor, immigration and
international politics. He writes for The Nation, The American Prospect,
The Progressive, LA Weekly, and the San Francisco Chronicle and Bay
Guardian, among others. His book, The Children of NAFTA, was published in
 2004. \n \nHe has been a documentary photographer for 15 years, shooting
for many national publications. He has exhibited his work nationally, and
in Mexico, the UK and Germany.\nHe recently completed a photodocumentary
project, Beyond Borders -- Transnational Working Communities, documenting
communities and social movements created by migration from Mexico and
Guatemala to the US, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation.\n \nFor
twenty years, Bacon was a labor organizer for unions in which immigrant
workers made up a large percentage of the membership. Those include the
United Farm Workers,\n the United Electrical Workers, the International
Ladies’ Garment Workers, the Molders Union and others. Those experiences
gave him an insight into changing conditions in the workforce, the impact
of the global economy and migration, and how these factors influence the
struggle for workers rights.\n \nCo-sponsors: Central Coast Workers Against
War, Monterey Bay Central Labor Council, National Lawyers Guild, Santa Cruz
County American Civil Liberties Union, Santa Cruz County Immigration
Project, Santa Cruz County United Nations Association, Santa Cruz Women's
International League for Peace and Freedom,\n \n \n

\nAs Watsonville goes, so goes California -- and beyond.\n \nOur town is a
draw for immigrants, known in Mexico as offering work in the
fields.\nPrimarily an agricultural town that is 85% Latino,\nwe struggle
with all the issues of legal and illegal immigration:\nhuman rights,
health, welfare, labor, racism, water, pesticide use,\neducation,
sustainable living, housing, transportation, cost of living, etc.\nPajaro
Valley WILPF will present events each month that are designed\nto spark
awareness and promote ways to take action on issues\nthat are at the heart
of our town, our homes, and our families.\n \nWatch for "El Inmigrante"
 coming in July...\n
