DESCRIPTION:*** Late news: The Oakland Paramount location has been confirmed!
***\n\nMadeleine Albright, ex-Secretary of State and War Criminal, had been
scheduled to speak at a closed event at the Berkeley Community Theater. The
East Bay Coaliton Against the War, the U.C. Berkeley Coalition Against the
War, Students for Justice in Palestine (UC Berkeley) and other groups have
called for a demonstration against her.\n\nPerhaps to avoid our
demonstration, the organizers of the Albright event have moved it to the
Oakland Paramount Theater. But we'll be there! \n\nThe Paramount is about a
block north of the 19th Street BART station. Map and directions:
http://www.paramounttheater.com/direct.html \n\nTry to get there between
6:00 and 6:30 PM, or as early as possible. Bring signs, banners,
noisemakers, etc. If you don't have time to make signs especially for Ms.
Albright, any signs opposing U.S. intervention around the world, especially
in Southwest Asia (a.k.a. 'The Middle East') are certainly relevant. \n\n-
Aaron \n\nP.S. The main motivation for picketing Albright is her role in
maintaining the sanctions (embargo) against Iraq that have killed about 1.5
million Iraqis in the last 11 years, about half of them children. The
following is from the Leslie Stahl CBS Sixty Minutes interview of May 12,
1996 with the then-United Nations Ambassador re the diabolical consequences
of the economic sanctions imposed on Iraq:\n\nStahl: "We have heard that a
half a million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died
in Hiroshima... Is the price worth it?" (Transcript, p. 9).\n\nAlbright: "I
think this is a very hard choice, but the price, we think the price is
worth it." (Ibid.)\n\nShe also played a prominent role as U.S. Secretary of
State in the 79-day terror bombing of Yugoslavia during 1999, and in U.S.
support for Israeli oppression of the Palestinian people.\n\n[Note: If this
appears in your browser as one line without paragraph breaks, it’s
because of a bug in the system.]\n
