DESCRIPTION:***"Wizard of Oz" characters protest war, consumerism, & Gap***\nDorothy
entreats America to stop the war, become consumers of conscience!\nSat, Dec
14, 11:00 AM,  Union Square (Geary & Powell), San Francisco \n\nMeet
Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Glynda & Munchkins as they melt "The
Wicked Witch of Corporate Greed" Skits, songs, & lollipops to protest
Fisher logging, Gap sweatshops, and war-fueling consumerism "Wizard of Oz"
characters in full regalia will "follow the yellow brick road" from Gap
store to Gap store around Union Square, this Saturday, December 14,
starting at 11:00 a.m., with skits, songs, lollipops, and leaflets in
protest of corporate greed.  Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Good Witch
Glynda & Munchkins will entreat shoppers to patronize "munchkin" stores
("Shop Mom & Pop, fair trade & green!  Don't feed corporate greed!"), and
to boycott "Wicked Witch" corporations such as Gap, whose practices are
destroying Emerald City (our redwood forests) and Munchkin Values
(democracy, the common good).  Oz further protests "Wicked Witch of the
West" war policies that seek to dominate the earth's remaining oil supplies
and all trade, fueled by greed and out-of-control consumerism. The "Wizard
of Oz" rap against the Gap:\n.  Gap's ruling Fisher family is destroying
California's redwood forests with clear-cutting and toxic herbicides, and,
not satisfied with that, recently applied for a "license to kill endangered
species" throughout their vast redwood forest holdings.\n.  Using
quantities of fuel, and polluting the oceans, Gap searches the globe for
cheap, unprotected labor--in 55 countries--and for cheap raw
products--cotton grown in places like Uzbekistan with horrendous pesticide
pollution and water depletion problems.\n"In Munchkinland businesses are
small, local, and responsible to the common good, the wealth is shared, no
one goes hungry or lacks shelter, friendship abounds, and general evils
(such as the Wicked Witch of the West, or Corporate Greed) are dealt with
stoutly and by consensus," said the Good Witch, Glinda.  "Think!" cried
the Scarecrow, "It takes brains to 'connect the dots' between consumerism
and war."  "Why don't they use Veggie Diesel!" cried the Tin Man, oiling
his joints. "It takes courage to fight the military-industrial complex!"
roared the Lion.  "Please have the heart, brains, and courage to protest
this war and become consumers of conscience!" said Dorothy, as she clicked
 her heels.\n\n###\n\n
