DESCRIPTION:Women and Globalization: Fair Trade for Coffee Farmers\nSpeaker: Alexa
Marin Colindras \n\nSPEAKER AND TOPIC: Alexa Marin Colindras is an
inspiring 31-year-old coffee farmer from Nueva Segovia, a region known for
its high quality coffee. In 1994, Alexa became a member of the Prodecoop
farmer cooperative, where she now serves as Treasurer and Vice President.
The crisis in the coffee industry is devastating poor farmers in Nicaragua
and across Latin America. Women are especially hard hit by forces of
globalization, which leave women with little resources to feed their
families and send their kids to school. Alexa inspires audiences by
demonstrating the concrete impacts of local organizing for global justice
through promoting Fair Trade coffee. \n	Alexa will also be speaking about
Berkeley’s Measure 0 and how it will affect small farmers around the
 world. \n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2004/02/03/12013.php
