DESCRIPTION:Thursday, May 18, 7:30 pm. HopeDance Films presents the recently
released......"The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil." A group
of peak oil enthusiasts from Ohio travel with film director, Greg Green
(The End of Suburbia), to learn first hand how Cubans survived their
tragedy of being cut off from Soviet oil. Since they couldn't fuel their
aging cars, they walked, biked, rode buses, and carpooled... as well as
learned quickly how to grow food to survive. This film is to give hope to
the developed world as it wakes up to the consequences of being addicted to
oil, and to lift American's prejudice of Cuba by showing the Cuban people
as they are. The filmmakers do this by having the people tell their story
on film. It's a story of their dedication to independence and triumph over
adversity, and a story of cooperation and hope. Several Cubans expressed
the belief that living on an island, with its natural boundaries, breeds
awareness that there are limits to natural resourses. Internationally known
expert on Peak Oil, author of The Party's Over and Power Down and core
faculty member of New College, Richard Heinberg will answer questions after
 the film. Go to
