SUMMARY:Hyde at 50: A Legacy of Abortion Restriction, Rosie Jimenez &
 Forced Births for Poor Women
DESCRIPTION:50 Years of the Hyde Amendment\n\nOctober 21, 2026 at 9 AM PT (noon ET)
 \n\nRSVP:
 https://www.thenation.com/events/hyde-50-abortion-access-event/\n\nJoin The
Nation and the Rosie’s Law Coalition for a virtual conversation
reflecting on the legacy of the Hyde Amendment and Rosie Jimenez, moderated
by Nation deputy editor Regina Mahone and featuring Nation abortion access
correspondent Amy Littlefield, Rosie’s Law legislative campaign
coordinator Ana Rodriguez, and reproductive justice activist Nancy
Cárdenas Peña.\n\nThis fall marks 50 years since the passage of the Hyde
Amendment. The ban on federal funding of abortion is the most significant
yet under-acknowledged anti-abortion policy in U.S. history, restricting
access to a fundamental right through a budget rider. \n\nAccording to one
estimate, it’s forced more than a million people on Medicaid to give
birth who would otherwise have gotten an abortion. \n\nOctober 3, 2026 also
marks the 49th anniversary of the death of Rosie Jimenez, a 27-year-old
mother who was denied care from a clinic because she could not afford it
and instead got an unsafe abortion that took her life. Rosie is considered
the first documented victim of Hyde.\n\nThis virtual discussion will leave
ample time for audience Q&A.\n\nThe event is free but registration is
required. Attendees will receive a Zoom link in the email confirmation
 after registration.

SUMMARY:Phonebank to Stop the Deadly Merger
DESCRIPTION:What is the Deadly Merger?\nThe U.S. and Israel want to merge their
military systems in order to produce deadly weapons and surveillance
technology together. This Deadly Merger is buried inside the annual
military spending bill, or National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which
Congress will be voting on again soon.\n\nWe have a small window of time to
block the NDAA, which is why we’re phonebanking nearly every week to make
sure Congress knows where their constituents stand.\n\nOk, but what is a
“phonebank”?\nAt phonebanks, we call constituents (read: people) of key
moveable, influential members of Congress, and patch them directly through
to their elected official’s office. These are some of the most pleasant
calls you can make, chatting directly with supporters of DSA, USCPR Action,
and Adalah Justice Project.\n\nThese phonebanks have already driven
thousands of calls to Congress, directly contributing to historic votes on
the NDAA and arming Israel last month. We have the winds at our back, but
so much more to do.\n\n🔥 THIS WEEK, TURN UP THE HEAT 🔥\nNo prior
experience required—RSVP to as many as you
 can!\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/10/01/18888935.php

SUMMARY:United Nations Association Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The 29th United Nations Association Film Festival continues Wednesday, Oct.
21, in San Francisco with an evening of documentaries exploring identity,
addiction treatment and institutional accountability.\n\nThe evening begins
with "Becoming James," directed by Evan Possley. The eight-minute
documentary follows a man who, after decades in prison, works to rebuild
his identity and finds success in an unexpected way.\n\nNext is "Shuffle,"
directed by Benjamin Flaherty. Through the filmmaker’s own recovery, the
documentary investigates the multibillion-dollar addiction treatment
industry, examining financial incentives, conflicts of interest and the
system surrounding people seeking treatment.\n\nThe evening concludes with
"Nuns vs. The Vatican," directed by Lorena Luciano and produced by Filippo
Piscopo. The film follows a former Catholic nun who breaks her silence
about abuse within the Church, as other nuns come forward to examine a
culture of silence and institutional protection.\n\nUNAFF runs Oct.
15–25, 2026, with the theme Passion for Change. The festival features
films on human rights issues like the environment, women’s rights,
racism, and peace, engaging a diverse Bay Area

SUMMARY:Voting Rights Martyrs: U.S. Civil Rights Legacy & Sacrifice and
 the Midterm Elections
DESCRIPTION:“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history. Loving your
country means embracing all the complexity of your history." — Maryland
Governor Wes Moore\n\nWe remember the slain activists and protesters, of
all eras in U.S. history, and those slain in America whose untimely deaths
led to positive changes in this nation as well as those who made
extraordinary sacrifices for equal justice throughout their lifetime.
\n\nThey are American martyrs.\n\nJoin us to honor the heroes of voting
rights and get inspired for the upcoming midterms with stories of courage
 and sacrifice.\n\nDate: Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026 at 4 PM PT (7 PM
 ET)\n\nLocation: Online via Zoom\n\nRSVP:
 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/voting-rights-martyrs-webinar-legacy-sacrifice-and-the-midterm-elections-tickets-2002242826192\n\n\nJoin
Martyrs Day founder, author and legal scholar Gloria J. Browne-Marshall for
a special virtual discussion examining the history, sacrifice and
continuing legacy of voting rights martyrs in the United
States.\n\n“Voting Rights Martyrs: Legacy, Sacrifice, and the Midterm
Elections” will bring together journalists, historians, authors and
descendants of civil rights leaders for a conversation about the struggle
for voting rights, the people who sacrificed in pursuit of those rights and
the historical context surrounding contemporary voting issues and the 2026
midterm elections.\n\nThe program asks a central question: How do we fight
for our voting rights and why?\n\nThe webinar will connect the stories of
voting rights martyrs with broader questions about civic participation,
historical memory and voting rights.\n\nThrough journalism, historical
scholarship, family history and personal perspective, panelists will
consider the sacrifices that shaped the struggle for voting rights and why
preserving those stories remains important.\n\nThe conversation will also
provide historical context for understanding voting rights issues
surrounding the 2026 midterm elections. The program is intended to
encourage learning, discussion and greater understanding of the people and
events that helped shape voting rights in the United States.\n\nThe webinar
will be moderated by Gloria J. Browne-Marshall and will feature Yunior
Rivas, Michelle Flamer, Rochelle Dahmer and Dennis Dahmer.\n\nRegistered
attendees will receive information about accessing the virtual
 program.\n\n\nMODERATOR: Gloria J. Browne-Marshall\n\nGloria J.
Browne-Marshall is the founder of Martyrs Day and the author of “A
Protest History of the United States.” Her work examines law, civil
rights, social justice and the history of protest in the United States. Her
book explores centuries of resistance movements and the role sustained
protest has played in producing social and political change. “A Protest
History of the United States” received a 2026 Independent Publisher Book
Awards Gold Medal in History.\n\nBrowne-Marshall will moderate the
discussion and guide the conversation on the history of voting rights, the
sacrifices made in pursuit of equal access to the ballot and the lessons
that history offers for understanding voting rights
 today.\nPanelists\n\nSPEAKERS:\n\nYunior Rivas\n\nYunior Rivas is a
breaking news reporter with Democracy Docket whose reporting focuses on
voting, election administration, litigation and related democracy issues.
Rivas earned a master’s degree from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of
Journalism at CUNY, where he specialized in local news and data
reporting.\n\nHis reporting provides a contemporary perspective on voting
rights and the legal and administrative issues surrounding
 elections.\n\n\nMichelle Flamer\n\nMichelle Flamer represents 1838 Black
Metropolis and Philadelphia Heritage, as identified in the event materials.
Her participation will contribute a historical and community-centered
perspective to the discussion of voting rights, remembrance and the legacy
of those whose sacrifices helped advance civil rights.\n\n\nRochelle
Dahmer\n\nRochelle “Shelley” Dahmer is the author of “If You Don’t
Vote, You Don’t Count: Vernon Dahmer’s Fight for Equality,” a
children’s book that introduces younger generations to the life and
legacy of slain civil rights activist Vernon Dahmer. She is married to
Phillip Dahmer, Vernon Dahmer’s grandson.\n\nHer participation brings a
family and educational perspective to the discussion of Vernon Dahmer’s
legacy and the importance of preserving voting rights history for future
generations.\n\n\nDennis Dahmer\n\nDennis Dahmer is the youngest son of
Vernon Dahmer Sr., the Mississippi civil rights leader and NAACP chapter

home in January 1966. Dennis Dahmer survived the attack and has worked to
preserve and share his father’s legacy and commitment to voting rights
and civil rights.\n\nHis participation provides a direct family connection
to the history at the center of the webinar and an opportunity to reflect
on the human impact behind the struggle for voting
 rights.\n\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/10/11/18889224.php

SUMMARY:Trump Regime Takedown (every Saturday)
DESCRIPTION:We do not consent to Trump and his billionaire allies taking a chainsaw to
our government and our economy for their benefit! San Francisco is a
sanctuary city and We the People need to defend the values that make it so.
Let’s stand united and oppose the endless assaults on our communities,
our civil rights, the rule of law, and our democracy.\n\nKeep democracy
alive every Saturday by showing up, taking a stand, and sticking together
for the long haul. Standing together is better than standing alone. Let’s
get together and call out the Trump/MAGA regime as a community. Plus,
it’s fun! Think of it as our democracy corner—a place for you to voice
your opinion, hang out with like-minded fellow protesters, and experience a
cathartic moment together.\n\nWhat you can do:\n• If you’ve got signs,
flags, cardboard cutouts, or any protest visuals you want to make, bring
’em! We also have spare signs to lend.\n• If you have whistles, drums,
cowbells, or other noisemakers, bring ’em!\n• Musicians are welcome and
encouraged. Sing the song of democracy!\n• Many of our regular protesters
are part of local activist groups who are happy to chat with anyone who
wants to pair their indignation with direct action beyond street
protest.\n\nWe’ve turned this into the liveliest, loudest weekly protest
in the city and we welcome you to join us! Bring your friends or feel free
to show up by yourself. Note: We expect attendees to comply with traffic
laws and stay safe since it’s a busy intersection. \n\nThis weekly event
is hosted by Indivisible SF and 50501 SF (organizers of the San Francisco
No Kings March), and a committed group of active protest regulars who have
been showing up to this corner on a weekly basis since February 2025. \n\nA
core principle behind all Indivisible and 50501 events is a commitment to
nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any
potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. We oppose
violence, vandalism, and destruction of property. This protest is a lawful
exercise of our First Amendment right to peaceful
 assembly.\n\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/09/29/18888909.php

SUMMARY:Webinar: Kidnapped on the Global Sumud Flotilla, 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Fra Hughes, Director of Palestine Aid Ireland, as he recalls his
journey of activism with Palestine. From the violent streets of Belfast
where he grew up to being illegally abducted from the Global Sumud Flotilla
in May, 2026 under sniper sights by the IDF. From British colonial troops
on the ground in Ireland to zionist colonial troops on the ground in
Palestine, this story is one of occupation parallels and solidarity. Join
us as take a stroll with Fra on his Walk with Palestine from his first
convoy with George Galloway to Gaza in 2010, via his visits to the occupied
territories, Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, The Donbas, Syria, Lebanon and South
Africa, and his detention in Ketziot maximum security prison. Fra puts the
national liberation struggle into the international call for justice,
freedom and sovereignty.\n\nPresenter: \nFra Hughes is an activist and
humanitarian from Belfast, “Northern” Ireland. Born in 1963 and raised
during the Troubles, he learned the meaning of occupation on the streets of
his own city before turning his solidarity toward Palestine. He has
participated in multiple aid convoys to Gaza, co-founded the charity
Palestine Aid (Ireland), and served as a volunteer on the Global Sumud
Flotilla 2026—where he was kidnapped at gunpoint in international waters
and imprisoned in Ketziot high-security prison. He lives in Belfast with
his partner Pauline and their two dogs. Kidnapped on the Global Sumud
Flotilla to Gaza 2026 is his first

SUMMARY:Book Reading: “Bad Energy” by Joshua Frank in conversation
 with Scott Parkin
DESCRIPTION:In Bad Energy, award-winning journalist Joshua Frank argues that the green
energy transition is driven not by an effort to save the planet but by
profit incentives. We must stop burning fossil fuels if we have any hope of
saving the planet, but the significant, haphazard expansion of green energy
in recent years--from large solar projects to wind energy to mining for
renewables--has destroyed communities and ecosystems. And worse, renewables
simply cannot match our ever-expanding demand for energy, driven in no
small part by the rapid proliferation of data centers in the world's
wealthiest nations.\n\nTaking readers from copper mines in Montana and
Bolivia to wind farms in Wyoming to the geopolitical battle over deep-sea
mining in the South Pacific, Bad Energy offers a stark assessment of the
costs of the rush for renewables and the demand for endless growth. As
Frank makes clear, we cannot consume our way out of climate chaos. What we
need instead is rejection of the capitalist interests driving planetary
collapse and a radical vision for a truly sustainable
 future.\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/09/30/18888923.php

SUMMARY:One City One Book: Cities as Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:Explore how our relationships with cities, parks and the more-than-human
world can shape our future. Inspired by Susanna Kwan's Awake in the
Floating City, the 2026 One City One Book selection, this conversation
brings together local community leaders working on place-based
environmental justice to consider what it means to be an ancestor and how
the places we inhabit become part of our collective legacy. \n\nDrawing on
five years of the Parks as Ancestors series, inspired by the book, What
Kind of Ancestor Do You Want to Be?, the discussion expands the
conversation beyond protected parklands to consider urban spaces as living
legacies. \n\nThis interactive program invites participants to consider
what we inherit from the places and people who came before us-and what we
will leave behind for those who come after. Attendees are welcome to bring
a photograph or a sentimental object honoring someone they have lost, if
they wish to incorporate it into the

SUMMARY:Becoming Leaderful: A Panel Discussion on Building the
 Communities We Want
DESCRIPTION:Join a discussion among local activists and leaders on how to unlock and
amplify our capabilities in a moment which calls for leadership from every
community member. As our community and our structures come under attack,
this is the time for deep reflection and action, to ask ourselves who we
are, who we can be, and how to become the people we have been waiting for.
Our panelists will share their processes of refuting the model minority
myth, our own learned powerlessness, and what it looks like to take an
active part in ongoing social change. Attendees will leave the session with
new models and inspiration to build lasting change in their
communities.\nThe panelists are Claudia Leung from New Breath, Tash Nguyen
from Restore Oakland, and Krishna Desai, Esq. of Desai Tran, with moderator
 Kim Tran.\n\nAbout the Panelists\n\nClaudia Leung (she/they) is a queer,
disabled, mixed-race second-generation Chinese American born and raised in
the Bay Area. At New Breath Foundation, she serves as the Director of
Programs, leading in strategic grantmaking, capacity building, evaluation,
and learning. Throughout her career, Claudia has consistently focused on
centering marginalized communities to effect intersectional cultural and
social change. Her career spans more than a decade in roles from
grantmaking to communications to fundraising at organizations working on
racial justice, gender justice, arts, and education. Her organizing work
and background as a liberatory coach inform her approach to
 philanthropy.\n\nTash Nguyen (she/they) is a queer, gender-nonconforming,
community organizer and circlekeeper working to build racial and economic
justice. Born and raised in the Bay, they are the child of Vietnamese
refugees, and communities ties fuel their drive to dismantle systems of
domination. For over 10 years, they’ve been organizing to reduce jail
populations, stop jail expansions, and redirect resources out of carceral
budgets and into life-affirming solutions. Tash is trained in restorative
justice, mediation, and various conflict resolution techniques. They
believe that we must build cultures and practices that move beyond
punishment if we are to meaningfully break cycles of violence and create a
world rooted in shared prosperity.\nPrior to joining Restore Oakland in
2019, Tash served as a Senior Organizer and Advocate at the Ella Baker
Center for Human Rights, a founding partner of Restore Oakland. They
proudly serve on the board of the REAL Peoples Fund.\nKrishna Desai, Esq.
(they/them) works as an employment attorney, facilitator, and consultant to
create just and equitable workplaces. Early in their career Krishna worked
in gender-based harm prevention and published a book advising LGBTQIA+
youth of their rights. As an attorney, they have helped employees facing
discrimination and harassment secure robust settlements and policy changes
from Fortune 500 companies and national non-profits. For over a decade,
Krishna has coupled that same proactive mindset with their legal background
to counsel organizations seeking to align their practices with their
values.\nTheir past consulting clients include values aligned multinational
corporations, national non-profits and community based organizations.
Committed to real-world application, Krishna fosters productive
partnerships between community coalitions and local governments. They also
provide deescalation support at protests nationwide.\n\nKim Tran (she/her)
believes imagination is the engine of change. With over ten years of
experience in anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ initiatives, she takes a
multidimensional approach to organizational work.\nKim's holistic approach
to assessments, management training, facilitated sessions, and
implementation are highly effective and have been utilized by national
 non-profits, purpose-driven companies, community-based organizations,
premier academic institutions, and healthcare providers. Her research and
community organizing experience have also been featured in NPR, Slate,
Politico, PBS NewHour, and the New York Times. Her commitment to advocacy
with trans communities was featured in a TEDx talk. In 2021, the California
Legislative LGBTQ Caucus honored Kim with its Outstanding Community Member
award. Her first book, After Diversity, is forthcoming from Haymarket
 Books.\n\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/10/01/18888959.php

SUMMARY:Trump Regime Takedown (special Halloween edition)
DESCRIPTION:We do not consent to Trump and his billionaire allies taking a chainsaw to
our government and our economy for their benefit! San Francisco is a
sanctuary city and We the People need to defend the values that make it so.
Let’s stand united and oppose the endless assaults on our communities,
our civil rights, the rule of law, and our democracy.\n\nKeep democracy
alive every Saturday by showing up, taking a stand, and sticking together
for the long haul. Standing together is better than standing alone. Let’s
get together and call out the Trump/MAGA regime as a community. Plus,
it’s fun! Think of it as our democracy corner—a place for you to voice
your opinion, hang out with like-minded fellow protesters, and experience a
cathartic moment together.\n\nWhat you can do:\n• WEAR YOUR HALLOWEEN
COSTUMES! Patriotic inflatable frogs are especially welcome.\n• If
you’ve got signs, flags, cardboard cutouts, or any protest visuals you
want to make, bring ’em! We also have spare signs to lend.\n• If you
have whistles, drums, cowbells, or other noisemakers, bring ’em!\n•
Musicians are welcome and encouraged. Sing the song of democracy!\n• Many
of our regular protesters are part of local activist groups who are happy
to chat with anyone who wants to pair their indignation with direct action
beyond street protest.\n\nWe’ve turned this into the liveliest, loudest
weekly protest in the city and we welcome you to join us! Bring your
friends or feel free to show up by yourself. Note: We expect attendees to
comply with traffic laws and stay safe since it’s a busy intersection.
\n\nThis weekly event is hosted by Indivisible SF and 50501 SF (organizers
of the San Francisco No Kings March), and a committed group of active
protest regulars who have been showing up to this corner on a weekly basis
since February 2025. \n\nA core principle behind all Indivisible and 50501
events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to
seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree
with our values. We oppose violence, vandalism, and destruction of
property. This protest is a lawful exercise of our First Amendment right to
 peaceful
 assembly.\n\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/09/29/18888910.php

SUMMARY:Strike Debt Bay Area Book Group: End Times Fascism
DESCRIPTION:For our November meeting we will be reading the first five chapters (the
first two sections) of\n\nEnd Times Fascism And the Fight for the Living
 World\n\nby Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor\n\nAmazon, MacMillian.\n\n\nA
scathing investigation into the apocalyptic thinking of the Christian
nationalists, tech-bro reactionaries, and populist survivalists who
increasingly define the contemporary right—and a recipe for how to fight
them. This program is read by the authors.\n\nAs the planet burns and
shared reality melts, a new iteration of the far right is on the march. How
can we understand this dangerous new development, and what resources can we
draw on to resist it? In their scathing assessment of the contemporary
scene, the celebrated activists and authors Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor
explore how the religious fundamentalists, Silicon Valley technologists,
and ethno-nationalists who make up this apocalyptic alliance share more
than one might think: they are united in their belief that some kind of
cleansing cataclysm is coming, whether through the manifestation of
messianic prophecy, the rampages of a resource- and job-consuming
artificial intelligence, or the purported existential threat of immigration
and cultural replacement. Rather than avoiding this conflagration, they
welcome it, convinced they will be among the saved on the other
side.\n\n“End Times Fascism” is the ideology of the actors who strive
to make the world unlivable and then seek to protect themselves from the
fallout—whether by repairing to luxurious private islands, rocketing off
to Mars, or bunkering the nation to keep their enemies at bay. The new
survivalists have accumulated power, but they are far from impregnable. As
Klein and Taylor show via original reporting and analysis, their many
internal conflicts and contradictions and their nihilistic inability to
envision a shared future, even for their ostensible allies, leave them
vulnerable to a new kind of “pro-life” politics—rooted in reverence
for our shared existence and regard for the earth we inhabit and must
protect.\n\n\nStrike Debt Bay Area hosts this non-technical book group
discussion monthly on new and radical economic thinking. Our first book was
Doughnut Economics. Some of our more recent books have been Hayek's
Bastards, Here Comes the Sun, Pacific Circuit, A Paradise Built in Hell,
What’s Left – 3 Paths Through the Planetary Crisis, The Age of
Insecurity and Elinor Ostrom’s Rules for
 Radicals.\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/10/13/18889289.php

SUMMARY:Janet Weil: Merging US and Israeli high-tech militaries? No Way!
DESCRIPTION:Do you know about the proposed “United States–Israel Defense Technology
Cooperation\nInitiative” embedded in the annual must-pass military
funding bill, and what it could mean\nfor US foreign policy, military
affairs, and the war industries of both countries? Janet Weil,\na member of
CODEPINK and Veterans For Peace, will do a deep dive into this
sinister\nprovision, then lead a discussion of what we can DO about it,
whether the NDAA has\nbeen passed (unlikely) or not by early
November.\n\nJanet Weil, a blogger, editor, and retired ESL teacher, and a
military family member, has\nbeen a peace and environmental activist for
decades. A Bay Area resident for 36 years,\nJanet is currently active in

SUMMARY:Hold on to Your Music: A Mother's Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the San Francisco premiere of Hold On To Your Music: A Mother's
Legacy, including a live performance by internationally acclaimed concert
pianist Mona Golabek.\n\nVienna, 1938. The parents of 14-year-old piano
prodigy Lisa Jura faced an unimaginable choice: which of their three
daughters to send to safety on the Kindertransport. They chose Lisa. She
arrived alone in London, carrying her dreams, memories of her family, and
her mother's parting words: "Hold on to your music."\n\nDirected by Academy
Award nominated Josh Aronson and Emmy Award winner Adam Wood, the film
tells Lisa's remarkable story through rare archival footage, newly restored
recordings, and performances by her daughter, Mona Golabek. Drawing on
Golabek's best-selling book and acclaimed stage production, The Pianist of
Willesden Lane, it celebrates the enduring power of music and a mother's
love - a story that has reached more than 20 million people
worldwide.\n\nFollowing the screening and live performance, Golabek joins
director Josh Aronson and producer Susan Solomon Libitzky in conversation
 with executive producer, Dr. Anita
 Friedman.\n\n$30.\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/10/14/18889330.php

SUMMARY:Oakland Privacy: Fighting Against the Surveillance State
DESCRIPTION:Join Oakland Privacy to organize against the surveillance state, police
militarization and ICE, and to advocate for privacy, surveillance
regulation of both corporations and the state, and government transparency,
around the Bay and nationwide.\n\nWe fight against spy drones, facial
recognition, tracking equipment and online tracking, police body camera
secrecy, anti-transparency laws, and requirements for “backdoors” to
cellphones; we oppose “pre-crime” and “thought-crime,” — to list
just a few invasions of our privacy by all levels of Government, and
attempts to hide what government officials, employees and agencies are
doing.\n\nWe draft and push for privacy legislation for City Councils, at
the County level, and in Sacramento. We advocate in op-eds and in the
streets. We pursue lawsuits as necessary to protect our rights. We stand in
solidarity with Black Lives Matter and believe no one is illegal.\n \nCheck
out some of what we worked on, with links back through 2019.\n \nOakland
Privacy originally came together in 2013 to fight against the Domain
Awareness Center, Oakland’s citywide networked mass surveillance hub. OP
was instrumental in stopping the DAC from becoming a city-wide spying
network. We helped fight and in 2018 we helped win the fight against Urban
Shield.\n\nOur major projects currently include local legislation to
regulate state surveillance (we got the strongest surveillance regulation
ordinance in the country passed in Oakland!), supporting and opposing state
legislation as appropriate, battling mass surveillance in the form of
facial recognition and other analytics, mass aerial surveillance,
ubiquitous license plate readers, online tracking and ID requirements,
street surveillance, unregulated AI and fighting to ensure local
governments adhere to State privacy and transparency regulations.\n\nOn
September 12th, 2019 we were presented with a Barlow Award by the
Electronic Frontier Foundation for our work, and on March 16th, 2021 the
James Madison Freedom of Information Award by the Northern California
Society of Professional Journalists.\n\nIf you are interested in joining

SUMMARY:Hallie McConlogue: How to Save Humanity From AI Extinction
DESCRIPTION:An AI insider’s story about what’s happening, and how to stop AI from
doing the worst. \n\nWhy are we currently investing trillions in making
Humanity extinct? We must convince 8 billion\npeople of the danger so
advanced AI development grinds to a halt. This fight lets everyone put our
political conflicts aside. All humans from all countries: rich, poor,
conservative, or liberal... In this fight, we live or die
together.\n\nHallie McConlogue has worked and loved in the middle of the
Silicon Valley AI story. Her mother\ninvented parts of AI in 1963. She
worked for the guy who invented the AI chip for 20 years and dated famous
AI software developers. As a half-technical - half-theatrical people person
she can say, in simple human language, why AI has gone too far, and what
really needs to happen for humanity to
 survive.\nhttps://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2026/10/11/18889227.php

SUMMARY:Terpnami 2026
DESCRIPTION:The highest-level genetics conversation in the world returns to the Bay
Area this December to help growers worldwide garden harder, better, faster,
and stronger. \n\nOver 1,000 growers big and small from around the world
interact with 30 of the world’s top breeders over two days December 5 and
6 in a private Bay Area venue for TERPNAMI. Guests can RSVP today to get
ticketing and event details.\n\nThe world’s first only ‘seed rave,’
Terpnami runs 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, with live
DJs, visuals, local food, drink, and creative art and merch collabs; plus
pre and after-parties, dinners and meetups.\n\n“Terpnami is the most
important seed show in the world,” said California breeder Purple Caper.
\n\nWhy Terpnami 2026?\n\nCalifornia remains the global cannabis epicenter
for genetic innovation. Virtually every hot strain in the $60 billion U.S.
market, and the global cannabis market beyond, traces its roots to genetics
bred or popularized in California. Lemon Cherry Gelato, Z, GSC, OG Kush,
and GDP are just few California creations.\n\nTerpnami keeps the Bay Area
cannabis genetics beacon lit every December, a time of year when the
full-sun harvest seeds are shucked and packaged, and folks are flush with
cash for Christmas and thinking about what to grow in 2027.\n\nFor year
three, Terpnami again shifts to a new venue with historic, theatrical
features, crucial mass transit access, and more amenities for guests
including off-street parking, and a dedicated restaurant. Our first
 spotlighted guests include:\n\n-Exotic Genetix\n-Equilibrium
Genetics\n-Maine Trees (maker of Blue Lobster)\n-Michigan’s Voyage Bloom
 (Slurmz)\n-Grove Bags with TerpLoc\n-Purple Caper\n-Zeed Vault |
 Grandiflora\n-and many more.\n\n-RSVP for Day 1 here:
