text Obama's Health Care Betrayal=1 Term Pres - by repost
The shrunken and eviscerated public option in the Obama health care plan may now be discarded in favor of something called a health co-op. The mounting toll of concessions to drug companies and bailouts of private insurers contained in the Obama plan have transformed it, according to Rep. John Conyers, into “crap,” and threaten to make Obama a one-term president.

Documented violations in this closely watched case convince groups as diverse as Amnesty International and the national NAACP that Abu-Jamal is the victim of double standards of justice. The NAACP approved a resolution at its centennial convention in July 2009 calling on the US Department of Justice to investigate civil rights violations in the Abu-Jamal case.

video J Patrick O'Connor: Mumia Abu-Jamal deserves Civil Rights Investigation (VIDEO) (video/x-ms-wmv 33.1MB) - by Hans Bennett
Interviewed in San Francisco on July 1, 2009, J. Patrick O'Connor is the author of the 2008 book 'The Framing of Mumia Abu-Jamal' which has been completely ignored by the mainstream media in Philadelphia, despite a New York Times article released on the day of the book's release. In this new interview O'Connor argues for a federal civil rights investigation into Abu-Jamal's case, on grounds that the DA withheld the fact that a license application was found in Officer Daniel Faulkner's front s...

image Citing Withheld Evidence, Supporters Of Mumia Abu-Jamal Call For Civil Rights Investigation 120_jlbook.jpg original image ( 142x216) - by Hans Bennett, SF Bay View Newspaper
In April, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to consider an appeal from death-row journalist and former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of white Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner in a 1982 trial deemed unfair by Amnesty International, the European Parliament, the Japanese Diet, Nelson Mandela and numerous others. Now Abu-Jamal’s international support network is calling for a federal civil rights investigation into his case.

audio US Supreme Court Rejects Mumia Abu-Jamal's Appeal For a New Guilt Phase Trial (audio/mpeg 1.7MB) - by Hans Bennett
Today, the US Supreme Court rejected Mumia Abu-Jamal's appeal for a new guilt-phase trial. The Supreme Court has not yet decided whether to consider the Philadelphia DA's separate appeal, which is attempting to execute Abu-Jamal WITHOUT a new sentencing hearing. In response to today's rejection, Abu-Jamal's lead attorney Robert R. Bryan will be filing a "petition for re-hearing" at the US Supreme Court. Listen to Abu-Jamal's own response recorded this morning, interviewed by Noelle Hanrahan...

video Muntadar al-Zaidi Did What We Journalists Should Have Done Long Ago (video/x-flv 13.0MB) - by Dave Lindorff
Al-Zaidi listened to Bush blather that the half-decade of war he had initiated with the illegal invasion of Iraq had been “necessary for US security, Iraqi stability (sic) and world peace” and something just snapped. The television correspondent, who had been kidnapped and held for a while last year by Shiite militants, pulled off a shoe and threw it at Bush—a serious insult in Iraqi culture—and shouted “This is a farewell kiss, you dog!” When the first shoe missed its target, he ...

image GeoClan.com interview about Journalists for Mumia Abu-Jamal 120_dec8one.jpg original image ( 2015x1446) - by Hans Bennett interviewed by Clayton Ruley
Those advocating this radical journalist's execution show a disturbing lack of concern about the undeniable problems of racism (and all documented police/DA/judicial misconduct) throughout this case. At the most fundamental level, the FOP-led 'Fry Mumia' campaign's lack of concern is racist....The FOP appeals to a racist lynch-mob mentality that has long infected the US, so calling this a 'legal lynching' is no exaggeration.

text Mumia Abu-Jamal Faces US Supreme Court as New Book and Film Expose Injustice - by Hans Bennett
On Monday, Oct.6, in a ruling unrelated to death-row journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal's upcoming appeal of the recent Third Circuit decision denying a new guilt-phase trial, the US Supreme Court rejected his Post Conviction Relief Act (PCRA) appeal, which was asking the courts to hear newly discovered testimony from Kenneth Pate and Yvette Williams (read the affidavits here). The appeal had been filed in July, after it was rejected by the PA Supreme Court in Feb, 2008, and in 2005 by Philadelphia J...

image Screening Mumia: The Suppression of Dissent in America 120_ipgroup.jpg original image ( 600x399) - by Linn Washington, Jr.
“In Prison” presents extraordinary evidence pointing to Abu-Jamal’s innocence inclusive of crime scene photographs discovered in 2006 that contradict core elements of the prosecution’s case against the man whose written five books while on death row. The photos, for example, show no bullet marks in the sidewalk where prosecutors declared Abu-Jamal shot into the sidewalk around the fallen officer three times before shooting him once in the face. The photos show no cab behind the office...

On June 27, 2008, I submitted on behalf of my client, Mumia Abu-Jamal, a Petition for Rehearing and Rehearing En Banc in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Yesterday it was deemed "filed" by the court following rulings on related motions. The focus of the Petition is the issue of racism in jury selection. If unsuccessful, we will proceed to the United States Supreme Court.

On Monday, O'Connor appeared on "Jazz and Justice" (LISTEN HERE) and a book-signing event at Baruch College in New York City. Tuesday night, he is appearing at The Brecht Forum alongside Pam and Ramona Africa. The San Francisco Bay Area is now preparing for a similar tour this Fall. Despite an important NY Times article written in May, the mainstream media has virtually ignored this powerful new book which argues in painstaking detail that Abu-Jamal is innocent and that the actual shooter ...

image VIDEO: Changing the rules to deny Mumia justice 120_framinglr.jpg original image ( 240x360) - by Hans Bennett
On May 1, the day of his book's release, author J. Patrick O'Connor was interviewed at Philadelphia City Hall about "The Framing of Mumia Abu-Jamal." In part two of this interview, he discusses the March 27 ruling by the US Third Circuit Court of Appeals denying Mumia a new guilt-phase trial. In his book, O'Connor felt strongly that Mumia would be granted a new trial, and in light of the contrary ruling, he argues that the court made a political decision and actually went against court preced...
