imageMayor Villaraigosa accepts bribes for jobs

by No Kill Joe
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa appointed Ed Boks as the Director of Animal Services even though Boks had been fired from his two previous jobs for poor performance. After many, many mistakes and costly lawsuits the Mayor continued to stand by his appointment. Finally, City Council made a motion of "no confidence" in Ed Boks' leadership in 2009 and demanded that he be fired. Finally Boks was forced to resign. Why did the Mayor appoint Ed Boks, a man with no college education and a bad ...

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hired Ed Boks the Director of Animal Services without checking out his references. He did not know that Boks had just been sued for racial discrimination and unlawful termination a month before he hired him. When the City was apprised of the lawsuit in January 2006, Boks told the Mayor that the lawsuit "had no merit." Antonio did not investigate and took him at his word. Judge Kimba Wood in New York has ruled otherwise....

by Mr Animal
October 7, 2008 Mayor Villaraigosa was cuddling a puppy for a photo op on the steps of City Hall as Pet Smart Charities pledged $13.8 million for low cost spay/neuter clinics in the Los Angeles area. The charity stated they chose LA because of its "high euthanasia rate." You would think the Director of Animal Services would be as happy as the Mayor that his city would be receiving this much needed help. Instead he sends an email rant to the head of Pet Smart charities as follows:...

Los Angeles, CA October 2, 2008 -- Every year for six days before Yom Kippur (the Jewish Day of Atonement on October 2) some Jews perform the ritual "Kapparot." Kapparot is a custom in which the sins of a person are symbolically transferred to a fowl. The fowl is held above the person's head and swung in a circle three times while certain words are spoken. The fowl is then slaughtered so that the person may have a good, peaceful life. Sometimes the chickens are given to the poor as food but u...

Yesterday in the LA Times the Mayor posted a list of his favorites restaurants. Besides having expensive tastes he also has cruel tastes. His favorite restaurant in LA is pricey Patina. imageMayor Villaraigosa admits he failed Los Angeles' animals

by Not An Animal Activist
The first quarter 2008 numbers are out. Sadly there was a huge increase in cat and dog intake and euthanasia in Los Angeles City animal shelters. Things are now worse than before Antonio Villaraigosa became Mayor, before he hired his friend so called "nokill" guru Ed Boks to head the Department. Today his Director released a statement confirming his dismal performance while blaming others for his failure....

by Animal Rights Activist
Animal activist Laurel Kinder just filed a lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles for assault, battery and false imprisonment. On May 21, 2007 while she was photographing shelter animals as a New Hope rescue partner the shelter manager Tori Strawn physically tore her camera from her hands. Approximately 15 other shelter employees surrounded her. Fearing for her safety she fled to her car. Employees then chain locked the exit gates so she could not leave the premises. Police were called. The ...

image"NoKill" animal shelter gurus fail the nation's animals
deadshelterdog.jpg
by I love animals as much as the next guy
The Humane Society of the United States estimates that eight to ten million unwanted cats and dogs are killed every year because of lack of homes. Animal lovers everywhere are determined to stop this killing of innocent pets. They have turned to so called "NoKill" gurus who promise to stop the killing with life saving programs. Unfortunately the killing continues. Have shelters failed these "NoKill" plans or have the "NoKill" plans failed the shelters?...

imageMayor Antonio Villaraigosa releases misleading report about the failure of Animal Services
shelterdog.jpg
by James Kennedy
The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services just released their annual report for 2007. At first glance it seems euthanasia went down. If one looks at the actual underlying numbers, things couldn't be further from the truth. Thousands of animals were merely refused at the door and thousands more died from neglect....

by Ann Angeleno
August 21, 2007 Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced on the steps of City Hall that Los Angeles Animal Services was the number one and largest pet adoption agency in the nation. That's wonderful news except for the fact that it's completely untrue. LA Animal Services isn't even the largest or best in the immediate area. LA County Animal Control takes in more animals and adopts out more animals. Other shelters save more animals and euthanasia fewer than the City....

textLos Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa closes animal shelters by Ann Angeleno
In shocking news earlier this week the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services announced that they are basically closing the shelter doors to owner relinquished animals. Their rationale behind this move as per Ed Boks the General Manager is to "fine tune" "the population during the annual spring/summer crush of neonatal turn-ins." Read that, "we have no more room because we've been warehousing animals all year to keep our euthanasia rate artificially low to try to make me look good."...

textMayor Antonio Villaraigosa is not keeping his campaign promise to animals by Ann Angeleno
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa promised to make LA a NoKill city for animals. He hired Ed Boks to be the General Manager of LA Animal Services. After over a year on the job Boks failed to reduce the euthanasia rate. This is the first time the euthanasia rate has not gone down since they had public records. Fewer animals made it out alive. What went wrong? And what is the Mayor going to do about it?...
