Antonio Villaraigosa's Director guilty of racial discrimination 
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hired Ed Boks the Director of Animal Services without checking out his references. He did not know that Boks had just been sued for racial discrimination and unlawful termination a month before he hired him. When the City was apprised of the lawsuit in January 2006, Boks told the Mayor that the lawsuit "had no merit." Antonio did not investigate and took him at his word. Judge Kimba Wood in New York has ruled otherwise....

October 7, 2008 Mayor Villaraigosa was cuddling a puppy for a photo op on the steps of City Hall as Pet Smart Charities pledged $13.8 million for low cost spay/neuter clinics in the Los Angeles area. The charity stated they chose LA because of its "high euthanasia rate." Yesterday in the LA Times the Mayor posted a list of his favorites restaurants. Besides having expensive tastes he also has cruel tastes. His favorite restaurant in LA is pricey Patina. He says their foie gras is "great." He admits to eating this cruel $28 appetizer every time he visits the restaurant....

The first quarter 2008 numbers are out. Sadly there was a huge increase in cat and dog intake and euthanasia in Los Angeles City animal shelters. Things are now worse than before Antonio Villaraigosa became Mayor, before he hired his friend so called "nokill" guru Ed Boks to head the Department. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that eight to ten million unwanted cats and dogs are killed every year because of lack of homes. Animal lovers everywhere are determined to stop this killing of innocent pets. They have turned to so called "NoKill" gurus who promise to stop the killing with life saving programs. The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services just released their annual report for 2007. At first glance it seems euthanasia went down. If one looks at the actual underlying numbers, things couldn't be further from the truth. Thousands of animals were merely refused at the door and thousands more died from neglect....

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa fails Los Angeles' animals, then lies about it 
August 21, 2007 Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced on the steps of City Hall that Los Angeles Animal Services was the number one and largest pet adoption agency in the nation. That's wonderful news except for the fact that it's completely untrue. LA Animal Services isn't even the largest or best in the immediate area. LA County Animal Control takes in more animals and adopts out more animals. Other shelters save more animals and euthanasia fewer than the City....

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is not keeping his campaign promise to animals Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa promised to make LA a NoKill city for animals. He hired Ed Boks to be the General Manager of LA Animal Services. After over a year on the job Boks failed to reduce the euthanasia rate.
