The Downtown Commission dropped its mask and voted 5-1 to support a complete ban on the use of all city parking lots and garages unless you're parking a car or bike. If you're doing so, you will not be allowed to be in the lot (or in your vehicle) for more than 15 minutes but must exist on pain of $100+ citation....

Merchants at the Tuesday morning (3-21) monthly meeting of the Downtown Association discussed the Ten Minute Trespass law. They heard from City Council member Coonerty and decided to attend the Thursday morning (3-23) 8:30 AM Downtown Commission final hearing. The merchants will then meet again after the DC hearing (probably around 10:30 AM) on 3-23 to make a final decision on whether to support the anti-homeless law....

HUFF, the Human Rights Organization, SAFE, and Housing Now! in Santa Cruz sent two letters to Mayor Cynthia Mathews urging fairer treatment and an end to repressive behavior at City Council. Instead of answering our phone calls and letter, Mathews agreed to meet. The meeting was taped and will be replayed 10 AM Sunday February 19 on Free Radio Santa Cruz. A shorter segment will be played on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM....

Many around this time are starting to stress out from giftmas, and start to reject the commercial aspects of christmas, and try to seek out the spiritual roots of the holiday. This can create a quandary for atheist, agnostic, and not churchgoing or non-bible based christians who quite often celebrate the holiday for cultural and social reasons....
