On September 1st, Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of Oaxaca and marched to demand the immediate departure of Ulises Ruiz Ortiz (URO), freedom for political prisoners, the cancellation of 70 government arrest warrants for people involved in the leaderless Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca (APPO, by its Spanish initials) and the desire for popular governance. Singapore has barred twenty-eight activists from entering the country during the annual International Monetary Fund - World Bank meetings which began on Wednesday. In addition Singapore has cracked down on all protests this week - demonstrations have been banned throughout the country except for one area measuring twenty-six by twenty-six feet.
