Noam Chomsky on 2004 Election
The elections of November 2004 have received a great deal of discussion,
with exultation in some quarters, despair in others, and general
lamentation about a "divided nation." They are likely to have policy
consequences, particularly harmful to the public in the domestic arena,
and to the world with regard to the "transformation of the military,"
which has led some prominent strategic analysts to warn of "ultimate
doom" and to hope that US militarism and ag...

Updates On Situation In Ukraine
Ukraine's prime minister, Viktor Yanukovich, refused today to accept the vote of no confidence in his government by the country's parliament, describing the move as "illegal".
"I will never recognise this decision," said Mr Yanukovich, who was declared winner of the country's disputed presidential election on November 21. "They approved the decision in political terms. But it is against the law. It is against the constitution."...

Sacramento City Council Repeals Parade Rules!
Some good news! The Sacramento City Council on Tuesday night repealed the parade rules that we have been fighting so hard against since the Ag Expo in June 2003. Thanks to all of the people who worked so hard in getting this unconstitutional law repealed! Here’s (1) Attorney Keith Wagner’s summary of the meeting (2) Terri Hardy’s article in the Sacramento Bee, and (3) my poem/song that was my testimony during the meeting. I'm writing an article on this for BPM....

CNN: Martin Luther KingJr shot by other than James Earl Ray
I am uploading this transcript, because I think it is interesting that CNN is actually covering it. Their framing of the topic is a bit off. 'Conspiracy' magazines and websites which mix in complete trash with historical events where there is abundant evidence to indicate that something other than the mainstream press account occurred do a disservice....

Update on No Stolen Elections Campaign
Through a fairly extensive process of research and consultation with many voter
protection groups (including People for the American Way, Rainbow/Push, Southwest
Voters, the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, and This Time We Are Watching), the
campaign collectively concluded that the vote was not at all fair, because of a
combination of unfair rules, fraud and intimidation. At the same time, it is not
clear that the illegal elements of this unfairness (or straight incompetence or
tec...

UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw rants against Trotskyism
UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw sent an extraordinary letter to the Independent newspaper on November 16. It was in reply to an article by Robert Fisk the previous Saturday. In a description of Yassir Arafat’s funeral, Fisk had disparagingly referred to Straw, who attended on behalf of the British government, as a former Trotskyist or “an old Trot.”
Straw responded to Fisk’s factually incorrect aside like a man accused of a heinous crime, stating that to call him a Trotskyist was “a malici...
