Salem, OR; Rally Against Risky Expolsive LNG
Great turnout for the Feb 6th public rally against the liquified natural gas terminal proposed for Coos Bay, OR for the exlusive benefit of PG&E and other CA utilities via pipeline. Health and safety concerns were raised by Coos Bay/North Bend residents who feel that the location of a highly explosive LNG terminal near a coastal region subject to tsunamis and other seismic activity is not a wise idea....

Animals on Stage
This was to be the year Britain ended the centuries-old custom of the animal circus. With its elephants made to stand atop one another in pyramids, horses decorated like ice cream parfaits, swaggering lion tamers, and ringmasters directing tigers through hoops, the animal circus is one of the most arrogant displays of human dominance ever developed....

Hawaii's SuperFerry Folly

B-2s Drop Bombs on Hawai’i Island
Reported in Honolulu Advertiser October 30, 2007; “The Air Force's stealth bomber, the B-2 Spirit, dropped dummy 2,000-pound bombs at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) on the Big Island last week under a new agreement with the Army allowing the inert-ordnance bombing runs…” Concerned Hawai’i residents have one major problem with this scenario. Last August the Army confirmed that PTA is contaminated with military radioactive uranium products......

Halt All Military Activity in Hawaii ~ Clean-up Not Build-up!
“There are 800 documented military toxic sites in Hawaii. On Hawaii Island alone there are more than 250,000-acres littered with unexploded ordnance dating back till WWII. Military chemical and biological warfare agents have been secretly tested in Hilo's watershed. Chemical and other weapons and nuclear solid waste has been dumped off Hawaii's shores and millions of gallons of liquid nuclear waste have been discharged directly into Pearl Harbor.” Says Jim Albertini of Malu Aina…....

NO TO STRYKERS IN HAWAI’I & NO TO DEPLETED URANIUM!
When I read this morning that Michele Chavez-Pardini, a Waimea Mother, found possibly radioactive ammunition in her backyard, I thought I would go ballistic!
Who gives the Military the right to scatter Weapons of Mass Destruction around like they were leftover bamboo, or leaves, or something that would recycle itself back into growing, living things…...

NO TO INCREASED MILITARIZATION IN HAWAI`I & AROUND THE WORLD
Within the last few days and weeks we have been saturated with military story after story. The U.S. war and occupation of Iraq continues unabated. The numbers of killed and injured increase daily. Depleted Uranium (DU) radiation contamination has been confirmed not only on Oahu, but also now on Hawaii Island at Pohakuloa. Where else?...

ALOHA vs. WMD: Nonviolence or Nonexistence—Our Choice
Residents of Hawaii, and visitors who want to come to these "healing islands," are being asked (or told?) to host hundreds of Stryker Brigade vehicles on our precious Big Island. The vehicles are scheduled to operate on our sacred "aina" (land) that the Army has admitted to defiling with lethal amounts of uranium while exercising military "war games" since the 60's....

THE HEALING ISLAND OR THE RADIOACTIVE DIE-LAND?
The Strykers are massive military tanks that carry the huge 105mm cannon and multiple 25mm Bushmaster machine guns, both of which shoot DU ammunition. When fired, they discharge radioactive aerosols that affect local populations, like the Iraqi and Bosnian children whose leukemia rates soared 400% above normal after DU wars....

Federal Judge Restores Endangered Species Act Protections for Oregon Coast Coho Salmon
In yet another sordid example of how the Bush administration has used flawed science, a federal judge in a lawsuit by Earthjustice, Trout Unlimited, Pacific Rivers Council and the PCFFA declared as illegal the administration's decision to strip away endangered species protections for Oregon coast coho salmon....

Amy Goodman on Media in a Time of War
In the months before the U.S. led invasion of Iraq, many Americans found themselves scratching their heads. Why was the media reporting what the administration had to say, without asking the tough questions we were asking ourselves?...

Jeff Luers' sentence REVERSED (good news)
The Court of Appeals just unanimously ruled that Jeff's case will be reversed and remanded back to the Circuit Court for resentencing as a result of Judge Velure's errors in imposing the original draconian sentence. The opinion just came out this morning and we are still reviewing it for details, but it looks like Jeff could potentially get about 15 years taken off his 266 month sentence. We will provide you with more information as it becomes known. The entire opinion is included below for t...
