textWatching Us Pee by Tim Rumford (posted by R. Norse)
Tim Rumford passed on this bit of news--a story the Santa Cruz Sentinel has not yet broken--about the surveillance state, or, more accurately , the good ole free enterprise system in action. Perhaps the UCSC activists who corrected the 8th Amendment violations on campus by removing the offending snoopsystem there, can extend their activities to the greater Santa Cruz area?...

by CMI-Puerto Rico

textMigrawatch Denounces ICE Raids by migrawatch
Migrawatch denounces the gestapo-like tactics of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE). More than 900 people were taken in California and over 700 in Iowa during recent ICE raids. In the Monterey Bay Area, 25 people were taken, including in Watsonville, Salinas, Capitola and Seaside. One individual was stopped by ICE on Rodriguez Street in Watsonville in plain daylight. He was pushed to the ground, his hands were tied around his back, and his feet were bounded while being f...

textMayor Ignores Latest Brown Act Violations; Berkeley Councilman on Free Radio Sunday by Robert Norse
Several weeks ago, I sent the following letter to Mayor Ryan Coonerty demanding the Council rehear various items passed without the required public comment period (in spite of specific requests from the public to speak). On my Sunday radio show tomorrow (6-1) around noon (101.1 FM), Berkeley City Councilmember Kriss Worthington will be calling in for a second time to discuss new legislation to open up Council meetings to the public in Berkeley....

textAFSCME strike postponed -- what's next? by via uaw-quad.org
AFSCME 3299's strike (planned for June 4 - 5) has been postponed indefinitely. The university administration got scared by the intense organizing and solidarity being built at our campuses. So they broke out their checkbook and hired some professional union-busters, in an attempt to divide workers from one another, and to divide AFSCME from their allies. We have to respond by becoming more united and deepening our solidarity....
