Tens of thousands march in Oakland for immigrant rights
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (May 1, 2007) – Tens of thousands marched for immigrant rights today. The march was organized by the Labor Council, Oakland Community Organizations, ACORN, Centro Legal de La Raza/Lucha Unida, and many others, in support of “pro-worker immigration reform.” Many chants and signs expressed the radical idea that no human being is “illegal.” Many marchers set off at 9am from 100th Ave, but most joined the march as it made its way down International Blvd, past Lake Merritt, on ...

Why not make mass transit always free?
In the age of global warming, increasing gasoline prices, and (though I am personally a skeptic) the concerns about "peak oil", the supposedly progressive San Francisco Bay Area is living in the virtual mass transit dark ages. The damage to the MacArthur Maze in west Oakland will only make that more obvious to everyone....

Day 1 Student Worker Blitz Week
Student workers and their supporters will be holding an informational picket outside Foothill Dining Commons (Hearst Ave and Gayley Rd/ La Loma Ave) to bring attention to their struggle. Other student workers and supporters will be enacting a 20% at the Crossroads Dining Commons, to make up for the 20% difference in pay....
