Mega-Landlord Pulls Out Suddenly, Leaving Tenants in Fire Trap 
Page Mill Properties abruptly closed both their tony downtown Palo Alto office and their East Palo Alto property management office last week, but they abandoned the tenants long before that. The Menlo Park Fire Department says that only ONE of the current alarm systems is "even remotely working". The fire chief gave the giant landlord a citation and notice to repair months ago, but the situation remains dangerous.

East Palo Alto Mega-Landlord Page Mill Shuts Down Leasing Offices Page Mill Properties, which owns about 1,700 apartments in East Palo Alto's Woodland Park neighborhood, has tried unceasingly to fight the city's rent control ordinance that has been in place since the city was created in 1984. Now they appear to have cut and run, leaving properties in a mess behind them. Their offices are suddenly closed and locked up....for good?...

Predatory Landlord Scheme Starts To Unravel in East Palo Alto Thursday, September 3, 2009 :
On September 1, San Mateo Superior Court Judge Steven Dylina granted plaintiff's motion for a preliminary injunction in the closely watched Oberle v. Page Mill Properties class action lawsuit. The injunction will bar Page Mill and its related companies from collecting or enforcing rent increases that do not comply with the limits of the East Palo Alto Rent Stabilization Ordinance. The ruling represents a major setback for Page Mill's plans in East Palo Alto....

US Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D) mingled with shoppers today at the farmers market in San Carlos. The crowd included dozens who came to tell the Representative what was on their minds. Stanford Student Civil Disobedience Follows Prop 8 Announcement 
At noon today about 200 students gathered in White Plaza on Stanford University campus. After briefly rallying they marched to the major Palo Alto intersection of Campus and Palm Drives where they sat in the street and blocked traffic for approximately 30 minutes. There were no arrests.
