City Installs Energy-friendly Lights
The City Public Works Department recently installed energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs in two downtown parking garages. The new lights will save the city $9,500 annually, reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses and increase safety within the garages....

Mayor Coonerty's New Rules Ban Public Comment on Half of City Council Afternoon Agenda
On becoming Santa Cruz Mayor last November, Ryan Coonerty laid down a new set of procedures at City Council requiring members of the Public to get his permission before talking on "Consent Agenda" subjects. On February 24th, police broke through the front door of a home on the 700 block of Riverside Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz at about 10pm. Police Outside of Home on Riverside Avenue
Neighbors report that police have been waiting outside of a residence on the 700 block of Riverside Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz since about 2:00pm on Sunday, February 24th. Police declined to comment on their reason for being there, other than to say it was an "ongoing investigation." Approximately 25 people on bikes showed up at 7:15pm to witness the police in the side-yard of the residence and waiting on Riverside Avenue. There is speculation that the police are waiting for a warrant....

The CDFA will be holding "scoping" meetings to hear public comments regarding their Environmental Impact Review (EIR) process. Please be aware that the spraying is not dependent on completion of such a review, because they have declared a "State of Emergency", which gives them the right to overrule other regulations, such as local pesticide ordinances, private property laws, and health, safety, and environmental protection....
