Over 4,000 Dead US Troops in Iraq; Capitola Army Recruiters Stay Open for Business 
Protests and vigils were held across the nation on March 24th following an announcement the day before of 4,000 dead US soldiers in Iraq. A demonstration was held at the Military Recruitment Center in Capitola, where a Santa Cruz County coalition known as People United for Peace (PUP) demanded "an immediate end to the killing and occupation in Iraq." One woman was arrested for trespassing as she occupied the Army's recruiting office and refused to leave until the occupation of Iraq is over....

Traffic School For Bikes - An Editorial Santa Cruz, California has just begun a traffic school for "errant" bicyclists.

Perhaps it's too early to venture an opinion on this but my instinct says this is a really stupid idea. Why? Well, for one thing, the reasons bicyclists get cited for traffic violations in the first place only makes sense if you accept the premise that roads are mainly for automobiles and bicycles are an equivalent technology....

Five Years Too Many 
Last Wednesday, March 15, was the fifth anniversary of the Iraq occupation. To mark the event this art was carved into the sand at the lighthouse beach along West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz. Not sure the artist, I've seen similar artwork at this same beach denouncing the war in the past....

Police Disperse Peaceful Narwhallagraphic Video Showing Three SCPD squad cars and four officers ticketed one man and dispersed a group of others watching a silent video show projected on the side of the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union.
