'Catastrophic conditions' in Falluja
The six-day US-led assault on Falluja has turned catastrophic for civilians there and fuelled fighting in Iraq's northern city of Mosul.
"Conditions in Falluja are catastrophic," Firdus al-Abadi, spokeswoman for the Iraqi Red Crescent in Baghdad, said....

Interim Iraqi govt to spend $90mn in allowing expatriate Iraqis to vote
BAGHDAD: Iraq will spend $90mn to let citizens living abroad vote in elections, the government said yesterday, despite UN concerns organising oversees voting would be too costly.
The UN, which is advising on the January 27 national and provincial elections, opposed allowing expatriates to vote saying it was expensive, difficult to organise and open to fraud....

Iraq aflame over mass killings in Fallujah
The collective punishment of the people of Fallujah by the Bush administration has entered its sixth day.
What is taking place is not so much a battle as a homicidal rampage by the US military against every Iraqi male trapped inside the city. Since the assault began on Sunday, Fallujah men aged between 15 and 55 have been prevented from leaving. As American bombs and shells rained down, they were left little choice but to fight for their lives against the advancing US troops....

Fallujah violence is going on
After five days of fighting, U.S. and Iraqi forces are now said to be in control of nearly all of Fallujah, capturing or killing hundreds of insurgents who have used the city as a stronghold for months. But video sent back by journalists imbedded with U.S. forces there shows tough street battles continue with insurgents who also shot down a U.S. army helicopter north of Baghdad Friday....
