Polynesian Youth Attend Retreat at South Lake Tahoe
Polynesian youth from the Bay Area and Southern California attended the Annual Retreat at South Lake Tahoe and came out with flying colors. It was awe inspiring to see our beloved Polynesian youth shine when they spoke, in the dances they performed, the sports they played and the way they all behaved. Kudos to the Mentors and the Chaperones for doing such a wonderful job....

Asking Questions About UCSC's Missing Journalism Program
On June 7th, UC Santa Cruz students concerned about their missing journalism program asked questions of Bill Ladusaw, UCSC's Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education. Ladusaw seemed to place blame on UCSC's faculty for the loss of the journalism program, while dodging questions about the misappropriation of funds at the administrative level, including Chancellor Denice Denton's extravagant dog-run. Ladusaw encouraged students to seek support from faculty members and the academic sena...

School Beat: Reaching Special Education Ideals is Still Far Off
Google the expression “special education is a service, not a place” and you will come up with many references from special educators, disability advocates, parents and school administrators nationwide. In a perfect world, this slogan would describe reality. But as a parent and an advocate for effective education programs for all children, it seems to me that we still have a long way to go....

UCSC Workers, Students Grill Chancellor, Give June 5 Deadline
On Tuesday, May 23, UC Santa Cruz's custodians, part of the union AFSCME, continued their hard-fought wage parity campaign by staging a respectful protest inside Chancellor Denice Denton's Brown Bag event. The workers are frusterated over the Chancellor's lack of support for custodians and their families. While the Chancellor consistently refers to 'market rates' to justify top admin salaries (she earns upwards of $400,000/yr.), she has yet to support custodians whose poverty wages are up to ...
