New School Board Offers Legitimate Reason to Hope
On Friday, January 5, the three newest School Board members -- Jane Kim, Hydra Mendoza, and Kim-Shree Maufas -- were sworn into office. With this, San Francisco can now look at its public schools with hope that the new leadership will blow new life into the old challenges of public education. Many scientific organizations, activists, etc., have joined the push to clean up school buses...The first steps in this cleaner school bus awareness campaign are: 1) Replacement of the oldest fleet buses, 2) Retrofitting of the older models, and 3) Anti-idling policies. ROTC Supporters Threaten JROTC Opponents
"Hey you stupid hatin azz bitch!!! Better watch ur fkn bk ya dumbazz whore!" This was just one of the threatening MySpace messages directed at Mara Kubrin, a senior at Lowell High School, following the vote by the San Francisco school board to phase JROTC out of the City's public schools. On Tuesday evening, November 14, Mara presented a petition to the board opposing JROTC, signed by over 800 students.
