Protesters Lockdown at PacifiCorp, Demanding Energy Justice
Protesters have locked down in front of the Pacific Power building at NE 9th and Multnomah to demand that the company shut down the four dams it operates on the Klamath river. At noon today three protesters blockaded the main entrance to PacifiCorp's headquarters (NE 7th and Multnomah). The protesters were joined by a rally of several dozen supporters, many of whom wore hazmat suits painted with fake blood to draw attention to the poisonous conditions on the Klamath River....

Oregon: Another NEW Natural Gas Pipeline Proposed
As Houston-based energy developers try to convince rural Oregon and Washington to accept LNG development, we are now learning that NW Natural and Transcanada are the real players in this ill-advised scheme.

Abstentionism Wins by a Landslide Across Oaxaca
Contrary to the expectations and preoccupations of many, election day here in Oaxaca City was pretty much uneventful. So much so, that most voters opted to miss out on “the big event” itself…the act of voting.
Although the preliminary results are still being tallied, it’s already apparent that the big winner in today’s legislative elections is “none of the above”. At just after midnight local time, the State Electoral Institute showed that 75% of the electorate chose not to vote today. [No...

Dirty Justice: Tennessee Towns and Toxic Water
Originally From New America Media
Friday, August 3, 2007 : It would be optimistic to think that the growing awareness about the Holt case in Tennessee will mandate the necessary intervention and reform of factors that lead to environmental racism. Still, as a significant marker of disparity in treatment among communities, it is a telling commentary....

Second Quarter Reporting: What will Barrick hide from their shareholders this time?
August 2 marks the publishing date of Barrick Gold's second quarter results. With profits down by 14 percent, the Pascua Lama project delayed, and Norway's pension fund considering pulling their investment on ethical grounds, things aren't looking good for this gold mining giant. But, are any of these developments a big surprise? There are many shareholders who might think so, but that is only because Barrick has been systematically hiding vital information from them through glaring omissions...

Wednesday, August 1, 2007 :
The soft drink giant Pepsi has been forced to make an embarrassing admission – its best-selling Aquafina bottled water is nothing more than tap water. Pepsi has agreed to change its label under pressure from the advocacy group Corporate Accountability International (CAI) which has been leading an increasingly successful campaign against bottled water.
We look at the economic and environmental costs of the bottled water industry with
CAI’s Gigi Kellett and fr...

7/26 Letter from Daniel McGowan
I'm pretty convinced at this point, nearly 20 months after my arrest, that I am incredibly lucky to have the best support network I have ever seen, the aptly named Family and Friends of Daniel McGowan. No offense is meant to any other defendant (or prisoner) support group, but I've only experienced the love and support of my crew. That intense support - moral, legal, financial and otherwise - has made all the difference to me and it's why I write today with acceptance of my current situation ...

Sea Shepherd to intercept/block Planktos ship
Paul Watson has recently stated that the Sea Shepherd society opposes the plan by the Planktos group to experimentally enrich a region of the subtropical open-ocean with iron in order to enhance phytoplankton growth, which could theoretically bring capture carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
