Tohono O’odham Students, Elders Name Arizona’s Newest Wild Jaguar
SAN XAVIER, Tohono O’odham Nation, May 9, 2024 — Students from schools on the Tohono O’odham Nation, as well as groups of elders and nearly 1,000 Tribal members, have voted to name the newest detected wild jaguar to enter the United States from Mexico. The name chosen is O:ṣhad Ñu:kudam, which means “Jaguar Protector” in the O’odham language. (O:ṣhad Ñu:kudam is pronounced OH-shahd NOO-KOO-dum.)...
