On September 14 2014 Richmond police officer Wallace Jensen shot and killed 24-year-old Richard "Pedie" Perez III outside Uncle Sam's Liquor & Deli in Richmond. At the inquest, Jensen said that Pedie was reaching for his gun and that he feared for his life. But several eyewitnesses dispute this, and the Perez family has filed suit. In this video that captures the shooting, demonstrators appear to identify the shots as having come from the hill behind them, over the protesters and hitting police in the distance. (Video by Matthew Keys.) At a press conference at around 2:00 a.m. local time, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said a 41-year-old officer from St. Louis County was shot in the shoulder, and a 32-year-old Webster Groves officer was shot in the face. Both were conscious and expected to survive.

A video has surfaced of Santa Cruz Police hitting and tasing Oliver Howard in front of the court house on October 13, 2014, in what multiple witnesses called excessive force at the time. The woman who recorded the video can be heard saying, "I hate cops" and "this is so fucked up" as the events unfolded.
