Perez, better known as "Pedie," was unarmed, but at the inquest officer Jensen said that Pedie had tried to take his gun and that he feared for his life. At a press conference at around 2:00 a.m. local time, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said a 41-year-old officer from St. Louis County was shot in the shoulder, and a 32-year-old Webster Groves officer was shot in the face.
