Statement from the family of Luís Góngora in Teabo, Yucatán on the one year anniversary of his killing by SFPD

Bix a beel, Buenas tardes, good afternoon. My name is Carlos Poot Pat, cousin of the deceased, and today I have the honor and the responsibility to give you a message from his family in Teabo, Yucatán:

“My name is Fidelia del Carmen, widow of Luis Góngora Pat
My name is Luis Rodolfo, son of Luis Góngora Pat
My name is Rossana, daughter of Luis Góngora Pat
My name is Ángel de Jesús, son of Luis Góngora Pat
My name is Estela, mother of Luis
My name is Demetrio, father of Luis

We, the widow, children and parents of Luis Góngora Pat, have prepared a brief message for our family and friends in San Francisco on this very important day:

Today marks a year since the death of Luis, our beloved father, an exemplary father, a great son and a great husband, whom the San Francisco police took away from us. The culprits are still free. How is that possible in a city like San Francisco?

All we demand is justice for our father. We feel devastated, but we would feel better knowing that his murderers are paying their guilt.

Every time we remember our dad and knowing that we are not going to see him again, we cry of anger and impotence. Memories is all that is left of him; we hope the guilty ones pay for the damage they caused us.

All that is left is to honor his memory: HONOR AND JUSTICE FOR LUIS GÓNGORA PAT!

Our dear father, wherever you are, thank you for bringing us into this world. We will not stop until justice arrives. Those who killed you, those who murdered you, will pay for what they’ve done.

Our mother tells us all the time, “If your dad was here, things would be much better.”
His mother, our grandmother—80 years old—when we talk to her she says she does not want to die until she knows that the murderers of her son are in jail paying for their guilt.

In San Francisco there are many people who are supporting us. Relatives and friends, we just want to say that we love you very much. We do not know you personally, but from the bottom of our hearts and with much affection, we send you many thanks and hugs for your efforts.

We demand justice for Luís Demetrio Góngora Pat, against his assassins, Sergeant Nate Seger and Officer Michael Mellone!”

Thank you.

Gracias.

Family Wants Justice! Luís Poot Pat, cousin of Luís Góngora Pat, on anniversary of SFPD killing

April 7, 2017—to be delivered Mission Police Station, 11a.m.—Statement by Luís Poot Pat, cousin of Luís Góngora Pat, on the anniversary of his killing by SFPD.

My name is Luís Poot Pat, I am the cousin of Luís Góngora Pat.

Here we are in front of the Mission police station. The two murderers of my cousin came from here. They found him sitting on Shotwell Street and 19th, and he was unjustifiably and cruelly killed. In less than 28 seconds, he was killed.

Today is a year since the incident happened and no San Francisco City authority has ever bothered to notify us of his death.

A year later, neither the Chief of Police, nor Gascon, nor any other authority has had the courtesy to tell us the stage of progress of my cousin’s case.

At the funerary parlor, around the corner from here, we held a wake for the body of the deceased. These were traumatic times for the family. We had a very bad time along with his youngest brother José, but thanks to the community we took strength to stand up and fight his cause for justice. As family of my cousin, I would not wish this tragedy on anyone.

Unfortunately, in those days, the most difficult of my life, I became aware of all the other people killed by the police. And to date no justice has been done by the District Attorney, the abettor of bad cops!

I do not know if he is paid off or if he is afraid of the police union, but if he cannot do his job, he should resign. Instead he continues to lie to the public, charge a salary and make us go through bad times.

Gascón, grow a pair! For once in your life fulfill your obligations, which is what you are paid to do!

What the family wants is for those two bad cops, who killed my cousin, to feel the weight of the law and get sent to jail.

Please donate to the Luis Góngora Pat Anniversary Memorial Fund, here.
