A large red and white "RESIST" sign covered the University of California Santa Cruz sign in the early morning today, January 30, 2017.
The vivid large banner that had only one word, "RESIST" on it covered the usual edifice that is made out of a large squared off redwood log. The gold inset letters carved into the redwood log that usually announce the UCSC campus were covered with such a bold new clear sign, it seemed to change the whole meaning of coming onto campus today.
The University of California Santa Cruz sign faces High Street is within 50 yards or less from the intersection of High and Base streets at the campus entrance and sits squarely on a large base of stone and cement.
This early Monday morning the "RESIST" sign augured a new time.
Resistance is on in Santa Cruz and in other parts of the country. Hundreds of thousands of people took to airports this past weekend across the country to protest and resist Trump's ban on Muslims. The protests were immediate and strong signs of resistance and non-cooperation to Trump's fierce policy of racism, repression and the attempt he makes at closing our freedoms and rights.
The "RESIST" sign was seen by this author at about 7:30 am, and it was taken down before 8 am.
This author was not able to get a picture of the "RESIST" sign.
