SEIU 221 And Mark Leno In San Diego In "Collusion" With County Government?

by Monty Kroopkin
San Diego SEIU 221 officials are in collusion with the San Diego county management to abandon real collective bargaining for a wage deal with county bosses.
SEIU 221 In San Diego In "Collusion" With County Government?
"If the County offers raises and other changes and members vote to accept it, we would not have full negotiations until the end of that new contract. If members reject it, we go to the table around mid-December."

SEIU Spills Collusion with the County!

SEIU is openly telling members about top-level collusion between union and county officials to derail elections of our negotiation team members and to eliminate collective bargaining! They sent an eblast to members:

"We’ve gotten the County’s attention.
Our contract with the County expires on June 22, 2017. The County says it would prefer to avoid a long bargaining campaign, and it might offer us a new contract for a County member vote.

"What would that mean?
If the County offers raises and other changes and members vote to accept it, we would not have full negotiations until the end of that new contract. If members reject it, we go to the table around mid-December."

From the viewpoint of us ordinary rank and file members of SEIU, what it REALLY would mean is SEIU would spend thousands of dollars of our dues money to push members for a "yes" vote and that the County would get to blow off almost all our concerns (workloads, safety, et cetera) by not ever talking to our elected bargaining team. And it would mean that Local 221 president David Garcias would get to negotiate OUR next contract BY HIMSELF. Do you trust that man to decide on your pay and hours and working conditions? Why would Garcias even dream of screwing us out of our right to do collective bargaining? Well, it would mean a LOT less work for him. He still gets his six digit salary, paid by our union dues, no matter what WE get.

If you needed any more proof that SEIU is in bed with the County, now you have it!

If you have had enough of SEIU treating you like a mushroom (kept in the dark and only fed s***) then it is time for you to help build the new union. Call San Diego Public Service Workers (SDPSW IU 650-IWW) at 858-208-3283.

Please share this email with co-workers who may not otherwise see it.

Subject: Contract Action Team: Make the County Invest in San Diego Families

Dear Member XYZ,

The Invest in San Diego Families campaign is growing! We are united as never before around the idea that San Diego should invest in its residents and workers - instead of hoarding money in a growing surplus of more than $1.6 billion. We are building a united campaign because we know it is the only way to make real change – a safety net that meets the needs of the community, smart justice, and good jobs for County workers and all those who work for the County’s subcontractors.

Anyone who wants to help build the campaign is welcome. Together we win!

We need raises that close the gap with other counties – which has grown wider during the past two years: Los Angeles County and Orange County workers’ pay increased 2 to 3 percent more than San Diego workers' pay. No one who works full-time for the County should need public assistance.

We’ve gotten the County’s attention.
