Medical Cannabis Advisory Committee

We’re looking for a few good people!

The City of Watsonville is looking for volunteers to serve on an advisory committee to review and make recommendations to the City Council on medical cannabis in the City. In January, 2016, the City Council adopted an Ordinance that allows medical cannabis cultivation, however the Council also called for the creation of a committee to review all aspects of the medical cannabis industry, including testing, dispensaries, manufacturing, transporting and delivery, which were included in recently adopted state regulations.

The purpose of the 11 member advisory committee is to provide feedback and guidance to City staff and the Council regarding a cannabis tax initiative, as well as the development of a comprehensive ordinance that regulates all aspects of the medical cannabis industry.

Meetings: The advisory committee will meet bi-weekly for a 6-month period, beginning in mid- March, 2016. Staff will make every effort to schedule meetings to meet the needs of all members. This may necessitate holding late afternoon or evening meetings and the meetings will be open to the public.

Responsibilities: Advisory committee members are expected to review existing regulations as well as draft medical cannabis regulations, attend meetings, and provide timely feedback to support the project. Interim work products may include background research and review of draft ordinances related to cannabis taxation and medical cannabis regulations.

If you are a local resident, own a business, provide services or work in Watsonville and are interested in participating as a member of the advisory committee on medical cannabis, please contact Suzi Merriam in the Community Development Department by February 28, 2016. Once all letters of interest are received they will be provided to the Mayor for selection based on the criteria below. We look forward to hearing from you.
