In San Francisco, Developers Contribute to The Increase of Contamination All Over SF

by Francisco Da Costa
While San Francisco brags that it is controlling it Carbon Footprint and contamination - at Pier 70 attempts are now underway to cap tons of coal tar. It is the same at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard - still under the the control of the United States Navy. All over San Francisco - congestion on our streets has increased. The Mayor, Edwin M. Lee thinks he can talk the talk - what is critical for him to do is act and act wisely - he has failed to walk the walk. San Francisco is contributing in large measure to the Carbon Footprint - and should set an example but has NOT. When will San Franciscans wake up and challenge the SF Board of Supervisors and Mayor Edwin M. Lee - siding with very corrupt - developers.
Forest City is about to cap if not dump tons and tons of coal tar - that has been sitting in large concrete tanks - for over 50 years. Mayor Edwin M. Lee - the SF Department of Environment, the Environmental Department linked to the SF Health Department, Barbara Gracia the Director of SF Health, the Controller, the City Attorney, others that talk the talk - are aware of this fact - but have not said a word.

We cannot permit corrupt developers like Forest City to compromise the Bay - by Pier 70.

Pier 70 is contaminated - contaminated by the operation during World War II - and the shipping industry that built hundreds of ships - and contributed to the War effort.

Pier 70 paid a price - two large Ammonia spills that contaminated the Watershed - and the U.S. Navy has failed to abate and mitigate the two areas. The coal tar has been sitting in large concrete tanks - that are leaking - leaking into the Bay.

A Proposition was passed backed by corrupt folks like Malia Cohen the District 10 Supervisor, Mayor Edwin M. Lee, Joe Boss and others who have no clue about contamination and less about Quality of Life issues.

All over San Francisco - congestion on our roads have reached saturation point - the Mayor Edwin M. Lee and the developers want it all - they want the skyscrapers - and do not care if San Francisco turns into another Manhattan.

Again and agains - after hours of sitting down advocates - have to witness developers get what they want. The SF Planning Department under John Rahaim - just keeps on " rubber stamping ".

Forest City recently got what they wanted - building 140 feet buildings - where only 40 feet building were permitted. Spot Zoning is becoming fashionable - and those that have money - spread it around - and adversely impact thousands.

San Francisco is hurting - the Carbon Footprint - from all the concrete and construction. The thousands of tons of " Methane Gas " - from the poor landfill - from Mission Bay to Geneva Street - some 300,000 tons of Methane Gas annually. One ton of Methane Gas equals twenty two tons of Carbon Dioxide.

San Francisco is the home of so called environmentalists - none of them want to speak up - we San Franciscans cannot tolerate the blatant congestion, the increase in the Carbon Footprint, the gentrification, the increase in violence - killings and shootings.

Something has to be done - and something is done by a few - but we need a hue and cry - that has never been witnessed before.
