Big Bucks, Big Lies, and Big Deception from Big Plastic from Novolex on California Bag Ban

For those keeping tabs on the plastic bag referendum, there's been a few interesting developments in the past few days.

Taiwan-based Formosa Plastics has kicked in an additional $350,000 into the bag companies campaign. The company supplies chemicals to the plastic bag industry. It has been in continuous trouble with the EPA and OSHA.

To date, nearly 95% of the contributions have been from out-of-state.

This spending is the topic of a Plastics News story, the trade group of the plastics industry. With the headline of "Industry Must Spend Big to Win," the article puts the price tag on the referendum attempt alone at $55 million based on estimates by a well-known election analyst.

The other article appearing today on the ban is from veteran Sacramento Bee columnist Dan Walters, takes a look at the "poison pill" strategy by bag makers.

Expect more money to flow from the out-of-state plastic corporations in the days ahead as they try to qualify their ballot initiative designed to confuse voters.
