120 Healthcare Workers at Dignity Health in Santa Cruz Join SEIU-UHW

“Providing the best patient care is what matters most to us, and thankfully we now will have more say in the day-to-day decisions,” said Abigail Welch, a medical assistant at Dignity Health in Santa Cruz, Calif. “Joining together with my co-workers gives us the chance to speak with one voice when it comes to quality patient care, and that will help everyone in the hospital and the community.”

The Dignity Health workers affected include medical assistants, receptionists, registered nurses, physical therapists and social workers. They join 15,000 Dignity Health employees across California who are already members of SEIU-UHW.

By joining the union, the Dignity Health workers will be able to help SEIU-UHW’s campaign to fully fund Medi-Cal, the program that provides health coverage to low-income seniors and people with disabilities in California, and qualify a statewide initiative for the November 2016 ballot that would gradually raise California’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2021.
