As A2C2 Closes, Americans for Policy Reform (AFPR) Sets Up New Headquarters

SAN JOSE, CA (Oct. 28, 2015) - The All American Cannabis Club (A2C2) lost its case against the city of San Jose, based on the proximity of a church, and was forced to close last week. In the past year San Jose has shut down more than 85% of the storefront cannabis clubs in the city. Dave Hodges, founder of A2C2, has decided to maintain the lease and convert the location to a Headquarters for the 2016 legalization efforts in California.

“It’s unfortunate the city has decided to give money to street drug dealers and limit access for medical marijuana patients,” said Hodges. “With the small number of locations, unlawful age restrictions, and constraints on available products, there is more ‘weed sold on the streets’ in San Jose than ever before. This needs to change, and full legalization is the only answer.”

Hodges is among dozens of the proponents for the Marijuana Control Legalization and Revenue Act (MCLR) which recently filed three new versions of language for 2016 legalization. The filings include a 21 page, 12 page and 1 page version in order to provide a full range of options.

Americans for Policy Reform (AFPR) will be using the former A2C2 location as the new California Legalization Education headquarters. The office will be used to support the MCLR project and all 2016 efforts to legalize Marijuana in California. The headquarters will include a volunteer information and training room, call center, voter registration materials, and serve as a meeting space for supporters.


“There are no guarantees in 2016. Everyone who supports marijuana legalization needs to visit the headquarters,” said John Lee, Director of AFPR. “Supporters will learn how to get directly involved in supporting legalization in California.”

With over 20 marijuana initiatives now having been filed or planning to be filed shortly, AFPR will utilize the headquarters to educate people on the options. The goal of AFPR has always been to create a unified effort towards legalization in California. By providing this open and accessible resource, AFPR is making a direct call for all groups, including the ones led by Sean Parker, Weedmaps, ReformCA, MPP, DPA, and others to come together to ensure legalization will pass in 2016.
