Stockton Food Day planning for a broader, community wide effort
The City of Stockton, county seat for San Joaquin County, is a national leader in agriculture production boasting well over 3.2 billion dollars, the 6th largest agriculture economy in the United States. Together, we plan to grow Stockton Food Day as a model for better diet related health outcomes the nation by bringing diverse stakeholders to the table.
Stockton Food Day began as a small grass roots effort in South Stockton and continues to build a positive way forward, showcasing the bounty of Agriculture production throughout San Joaquin County.
We are building a broad based effort prepared for amazing growth, to date we have:
•spurred food movement momentum nationwide,
•educated millions of elementary, middle, and high school students about nutrition and locally grown food,
•informed countless city and state officials on Urban Agriculture food systems through public events and public policy conversations,
•supported positive local and national food policies, and
•raised greater awareness about food issues in cities and rural areas across the country.
What's next? We are preparing for developing a 2016 Stockton Urban Agriculture Council to formally help establish the framework for a forward thinking City of Stockton and San Joaquin County Urban Agriculture ordinance the best practices from throughout the State of California.
