Film showing commemorating Indigenous Peoples’ Day “In Whose Honor?

Friday, Oct. 9, 7pm
2969 Mission St., SF

Native Americans continue to struggle against the legacy of the colonial slaughter of Native peoples. Rather than acknowledge these historic crimes and pay reparations, the dominant U.S. capitalist system continues to disrespect, dishonor and exploit Native Americans and Native lands. There are more than 2,100 professional and amateur sports teams in the U.S. using Native-derived nicknames and mascots. At the same time, an ongoing campaign across the country has caused many racist nicknames to be changed.

The film, In Whose Honor? looks at the long-running racist practice of "honoring" American Indians as mascots and nicknames in sports. The documentary focuses on the story of Charlene Teters, a Spokane Indian whose campaign against the University of Illinois' degrading team mascot turned a college town upside down. Join us for the film showing and discussion.

Película conmemorando Día de los Pueblos Indígenas “¿En Cuyo Honor?”

viernes, 9 de octubre, 7pm
2969 Calle Mission, San Francisco
